Kanye Speaks On Homophobia

Published: Friday 8th Aug 2008 by Sam
Kanye Speaks On HomophobiaDuring his headlining set on the Glow In The Dark’s NYC tour stop, rapper Kanye West condemned homophobia, urging people to ‘open their minds’:

“Open your fucking minds. Open your minds. Be accepting of different people and let people be who they are. You know how many people came to me calling me gay cause I wear my jeans the fresh way? Or because I said hey, dude, how you gonna say ‘fag’ right in front of a gay dude’s face and act like that’s ok. That shit is disrespectful. Coming from Chicago, where if you saw somebody that was gay you were supppoed to stay ten feet away. It should be time to break out of the intuitions that I was sayin’, the steretypes, or the fear, the backlash that I would get if you don’t believe in what I believe in, acceptin’ people for who they are…they’re very talented and if they do something special in the world and they’re discriminated. I’ve flown across the world y’all, and I’ve come back here to tell you — open your minds and live a happier life…” {Source}

Kanye does great music don’t get me wrong. hes perfect at what he does, at times I didn’t like his cocky attitude and his fits he would have if he didn’t win awards.

But… I actually can applaud him on saying this and letting America know to stop discriminating against the gays.

    GO KANYE!!!

I agree with Kanye…but why is he so outspoken on homophobia and silent(and a big participant) on sexism

“She got D’s, mothersucka, D’s, Rosie Perez”

  7. Anonymous August 8, 2008

  8. LaFrancina August 8, 2008

Finally someone speaks out. Gosh. Homophobia is a social disease. People need to get over themselves

  10. Anonymous August 8, 2008

    I applaud him.

I wholeheartedly agree especially with me being a young, gay man. About time someone (a prominent figure in the media) speak out and up! 🙂

And that’s the truth…the more reasons we find to hate on one another, the longer we’ll all be divided. Hate is a sickness that this world needs to be cured of.

Kanye is one of my favorite rappers and indeed one of the best, but he's a moron who doesn't know anything about anything.

    !) Dropping out of college.
    2) The Whole "George Bush" thing.
    3) Saying "Rap" & "Homosexuality" are opposite (Look it up.)
    4) Sure to come. Trust me.

(P.S. I'm glad Gay Marriage is finally legal in California. Good 4 y'all.)

  14. Anonymous August 8, 2008

    I agree with Kanye..

  15. Anonymous August 8, 2008

This is why kanye is on top and will stay there, Go Kanye

  16. Kennard August 8, 2008

KC, youre an ignorant d***. He dropped out of college and made more out of his life. College isn’t for anyone. It doesn’t guarantee a job.
No rap and homosexuality aren’t opposites. You are thinking with the same mind he’s speaking out against.

COMMENT TO SAM – COMMENT TO SAM – COMMENT TO SAM!

Sam, I have a problem with you, this is a great thing Kanye is speaking on and it is apparent that you are gay from the interviews I have heard, so why not comment on what a great thing Kanye has done. Your always so quick to throw in useless comments about your pathetic vendetta towards Rihanna that no one wants to hear about but when it would be nice to see your input you just write “Your thoughts?” are you ashamed of being gay, Ive never seen you write about it ever, and even when I know your salavating over Nelly underwear shots, you continue to choose to comment on uninportant things and say stupid hater type comments but when you can finally say something positive you brush it off.

    What’s up with that?

    LOVE AND GREATNESS TO KANYE!

  20. lindsety August 8, 2008

  22. Anonymous August 8, 2008

the person who is commenting against sam is twat.
    1) sam is a girl, so everything u said woz s***
    2) most of the things she says is true bwt rihanna – she gd but not all dat.
    3) sam doesnt have to comment on everything its her blog she can do wot eva she wants

  23. Anonymous August 8, 2008

Oh please. We all know Kanye is on the DL. Too little too late in my opinion.

  24. Anonymous August 8, 2008

my respect for him grows with each day, and now with that being said i cant even begin to say how much

  25. Anonymous August 8, 2008

i agree!! most ppl in america have such a major issue with the whowle gay scene! they should be more like us in the u.k!

  26. Anonymous August 8, 2008

damn homie just 4 that imma buy yo next cd..thanks

  27. Anonymous August 8, 2008

I continue to state the same thing. Bashing Gays are the reason why our H** rates are so high. Society is to blame for that. IF Gays would be treated equally, they would feel more comfortable with being who they are. But some are so afraid to come out of the closet. People need to understand, the more we keep this ill mind about Gays, then we wil continue to have this major issue in our world..

  28. Kirk August 8, 2008

F*** Kanye. and f*** the gays too.

  29. Anonymous August 9, 2008

kirk i bet you wont say that to a gay persons face.

don’t think that you posting ignorant tasteless comments as such makes you an individual; but only a coward.
grow up, be a man and take some responsibility about yourself.

what people need to realize that their are a lot of LGBT in the entertainment industry, especially blacks, who are on the down low because of society’s failure to address the issue as a reality and take responsibility for our actions. constant hatred and negativity ain’t solving the issue. what’s ironic that at end the end the day, the gay/lesbian artists and people, who are made it possible for majority of these artist to get where they are today, are the ones getting paid.

all those who cant get with LGBT people, how about you stop buying the music that they produce, manage, promote, market, or what other important roles that they have within the entertainment industry, and stop wasting your time.

You raise a good point StayTrue. How can Kanye be so outspoken on issues of sexism against Homosexuals, but be perfectly fine perpetuating sexism against women? Go f*cking figure. If people want to talk about H** rates in the black community being high because of homophobia, how about linking H** rates among black women to the disrespect shown towards black women by “men” like Kanye. Do you think maybe there’s a correlation there too? hmmmm, something to ponder.

  31. Olli August 9, 2008

    holy words Kanye!!

There’s still a lot of homophobia in the music industry- especially from the Hip/Hop scene!

Another thing which should disappear, like the previous poster already said, disrespectful sexism against women!! That’s another thing, which i really can’t stand!!

  32. forgetmenot1865 August 9, 2008

I appreciate Kanye’s willingness to take on such a controversial issue. He may be crucified for his comments for someone in his profession — but what barriers have we ever torn down without a little bloodshed? Thanks, Kanye…

  33. Tommy August 9, 2008

I am very glad kanye has decided to take a positive stand on this issue! GLAAD will be very happy to add him to a very long list of gay-friendly performers 🙂 AND Kanye is a very hot icon for gay men so im sure this can only be good for him, so happy hes coming out to liking the GAYS, cause the gays love him 🙂

  34. buttababy August 9, 2008

    Dude Fresh!!!!!

  35. Anonymous August 10, 2008

THANK GOD….I DIDNT THINK A PUBLIC FIGURE WOULD EVER TALK ABOUT THIS ISSUE…..ESPECIALLY KANYE…..I HAVE A MORE NEW-FOUND RESPECT FOR HIM THIS GUY IS GREAT!…..OH AND SAM I SEE YOU ARE NOT REPLYING TO MY E-MAILS…..I WON A SIGNED COPY OF MS. KELLY DELUXE AND NEWVER RECEIVED IT AND YOU HAVE NOT REPLIED TO ANY OF MY E-MAILS THIS KIND OF UPSETS ME…..BY NOT REPLYING LETS ME KNOW THE WHOLE CONTEST WAS FAKE…WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?

  36. Anonymous August 10, 2008

    kayne is gay himself.

  37. Mark August 11, 2008

(((You guys need to read this blog more often, one guy said that Sam is gay without any evidence except the fact that he posted a pic of Nelly in his underwear shoot… & another said that Sam is a girl not a guy… get with the program people…)))

Anyway, Kanye is an icon, he will go down as a legendary rapper & I think he will only become more of an activist as time goes on… They can't stop you now Kanye!
