A representative for teen sensation Soulja Boy has confirmed the young entertainer was assaulted last week.
Unconfirmed reports began circulating on New Year’s Eve that Soulja Boy and several of his close friends were ambushed and robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday night (December 30) after six men invaded the rapper’s home.
Allegedly, Soulja Boy’s friend Jbar was nearly taken hostage during the robbery.
The following day (December 31), a video surfaced of two masked men claiming responsibility for the crime.
In the clip, the duo boasted of stalking Soulja Boy before the attack by attending his album release party and subsequently tailing the rapper to his home.
The alleged thieves further described the robbery in detail. They disputed initial reports of there being six assailants armed with pistols and Ak-47s.
Instead, the alleged robbers claimed the crime was completed between them with one weapon.
Due to the two minute video’s over the top content, the clip was initially met with skepticism by fans and media alike.
However, a representative for Soulja Boy has confirmed with AllHipHop.com that an incident did take place, but the rep refused to provide any concrete details, stating only that the crime is “a serious situation.”
Soulja Boy released his sophomore album iSouljaBoyTellem on December 16.
Earlier this week, the teen rapper again sparked controversy by releasing a Youtube video accusing legendary lyricist Nas of killing Hip-Hop and destroying economic opportunities of other emcees. {Source}
Randomness: With an under-performing sophomore effort in the shops, the timing of this all seems kinda suspect to me. Any publicity is good publicity? Just saying…
All I can say is…that’s sad.
i think its a set-up
everything for some publicity
set up for his floppin album
I mean, as much as I feel bad for what happened to him, he has chosen to live a life where he consistently flaunts the little fame he has, the few thousand he got from his first record, and the “YouTube dance craze” he supposedly set up. When you flaunt everything, you automatically make yourself more vulnerable. Hopefully he’ll learn not to have such a big ego.
And Sam, the ‘sympathy sells record’ method only seems to work when the singer him/herself dies. Case in point: Jennifer Hudson. Her mother was killed, not her, and for that reason, her debut album and single didn’t take off after the incident.
geez, it’s a publicity stunt! album sales, plus the controversy about nas, they did it for people to sympathize and buy his record. and he still won’t sell. next!
I immediately thought that if this was a real incident that Nas sent some people to teach him a new dance.
2 words- PUBLICITY STUNT
I don’t think this was a publicity stunt for some reason.
I think it was a publicity stunt too. I saw the video of the alleged goons talking about how they “robbed” Soulja Boy on worldstarhiphop.com It’s real suspect that they reveal details about the alleged robbery with voice changers. Why would real goons take the time out to release a video on the internet talking about a robbery gone bad? To give Soulja Boy more attention that’s why. I doubt this strategy will work though.
the album sucks big time
his career has been over for the past year
First of all, if it’s real, how can you take pride in robbing a kid? I mean. Break into a real hood gangsta’s house and YouTube about it. Don’t break into the Jonas Brothers house and act like you did something. What you trying to get? A PS3? Seriously.
I don’t think they are going for sympathy. Just trying to keep his name out there so people be like “Oh yea. He did drop an album. Let me go check it out.” and that’s probably what happened. LOL. I’m not gonna lie. I did. Unfortunately, I could check it out all day and still wouldn’t buy it because it’s a garbage album. You can have all the publicity in the world, but at the end of the day, a wack album is a wack album.
