Kelly Rowland‘s brand new single ‘Commander’ has finally premièred!
The epic up-tempo sees Rowland reunite with ‘When Love Takes Over’ producer David Guetta. However, unlike ‘Takes Over’, ‘Commander’ boasts an Urban edge (likely courtesy of the Rico Love, who penned the cut); an edge which, along with the song’s infectious chorus, should see it appeal to the both the Urban and Pop audience.

Make no mistake…this WILL NOT be Kelly’s urban hit. This is for the dance pop crowd that loved “When Loves Takes Over”. Yes, that alone might be enough to make her a true star in her own right but urban radio will not touch this without fairly significant remixing. If her team is thinking that this is the multi-format single, hopefully those remixes are underway before releasing to urban radio.
In the meantime, I will pass on this one and wait for a more traditional R&B record or “Smooches” (which I wear out on my IPOD).

I have one thing to say….
THIS SONG IS PURE FIRE!!! Kelly is indeed the DONNA SUMMER of our generation. This song is definately a great representation of dance/house music and the direction it’s currently headed in. I too have NEVER been a fan of “techno” or that “house” sound;but this is house like I’ve never heard before. It BANGS!! The song has verses,a chorus that’s catchy as hell and a cute little bridge. Not to mention,her vocals are strong yet playful. She sounds like she’s having so much fun singing this song,therefore,I have fun listening to it.
The production is reminiscent of oldskool Eurythmics(see “Sweet Dreams” sung by Annie Lennox).
The vocals are Kelly. She definately has her OWN voice,and yes,it is one of the most versatile voices in the industry. The girl can sing ANYTHING. I should know seeing as how I have ALL of her albums(Simply Deep,Ms.Kelly and Ms.Kelly the Deluxe Edition) and they are all different(a testament to her ecclecticism)yet they are all classics(I can listen to Kelly’s music forever).
I do think that this newest album of hers will be her most commendable to date and I love the fact that she’s doing what she wants to do with her sound this go-round. I truly believe that if the album is marketed properly and promoted to the fullest,it will be a commercial success,pulling big numbers once it is released. She ‘s tapping a different market and appealing to a different audience. One that will actually BUY the album once it hits stores. Now that we have an official single,we need an official album release date. If this is going to be a summer album(which it should be)then we need AT LEAST one more single before the release and two to three more after the album hits stores.
Now that “Commander” is primed to be her INTERNATIONAL single,I’m sure she’ll be doing promo performances left and right, and I DO AGREE with those who say that she will have to BRING IT performance wise. Her vocals need to be solid. Her stage presence at 1,000,000 and she should incorporate more choreography. She’s capable of all of that. She’s done it MANY times before but now it’s more important than ever. I have no doubt that Kelly can and will deliver. She’s already off to a GREAT start with this smash of a song.
