While Lady GaGa remains silent on the every-growing comparisons between her and Christina Aguilera, 29 year old Aguilera has taken a swipe at the ‘Bad Romance’ singer in the latest issue of OUT magazine. Check out what she had to say after the jump…
Rivalry’s nothing new to Aguilera, who spent her childhood dominating talent shows in the metropolitan Pittsburgh area and her early adolescence jockeying for position on “The Mickey Mouse Club” against littermates Britney Spears Justin Timberlake. Her late teens and 20s passed locked in a dead heat with her former BFF, Britney. But, as it relates to Lady Gaga, one might think comparisons to be especially odious. “Oh, the newcomer?” Aguilera chuckles. “I think she’s really fun to look at.”
Oh Christina…
The funniest part of the whole shabang is that while she sits questioning who GaGa is, the vast majority are questioning her relevancy to today’s industry. I mean one need not look further than the lukewarm reception to ‘Not Myself Tonight’, as well as the furore surrounding its video; a video many feel Christina used shock tactics in as a desperate ploy for attention.
In Christina’s absence from the industry, a bevy of artists have solidified their place as superstars – GaGa inclusive. Hence a little humility and humbleness on Christina’s part, IMO, would have prevented the raging comparisons that continue on today. Instead, Christina seems adamant on pouring fuel on the fire with catty comments such as those featured in the magazine – ironically doing so while donning her fiercest GaGa outfits. A mess.
Notice how you never catch the Britney’s and Beyonce’s of this world making such statements about other artists. Take from that what you will…
