With the release of his debut album, ‘Thank Me Later’, set for June 15th, rapper/singer Drake has started his promotional rounds. In an interview with The New York Times, the ‘Find Your Love’ singer spoke about his brief relationship with Rihanna which ended on bad terms. Drake raps about his feelings toward the Bajan model on the track ‘Fireworks’. Peep the lyrics & his thoughts about Rihanna below:
‘Fireworks’:
I could tell it wasn’t love, I just thought you’d fuck with me/ Who could’ve predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me, damn/ I kept my wits about me luckily, what happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me/ Now all of a sudden these gossip rags wanna cover me, and you makin’ it seem like it happened that way because of me/ But I was curious, and I’ll never forget it baby, what an experience/ You could’ve been the one, but it wasn’t that serious.
“I was a pawn,” Drake said. The song he wrote for her never got released. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he said. “I was like, wow, this feels terrible.”
But it’s also the new normal, and Drake wonders if real intimacy is now out of reach, maybe irretrievably so. “Did I sacrifice something?” he asked, looking for the black cloud above the silver lining. “Have I not realized what it is yet because I’m enjoying this too much?” {Source}
While it may be argued that men use women all the time, the situation is wrong either way. It seems that Rihanna was simply trying to attract media attention by building off the hype surrounding Drake. I guess talking about Chris Brown every 5 minutes and performing in her underwear wasn’t enough for her. On the hand, she needed to find some way of claiming the spotlight because we all know her ‘talent’ won’t suffice.
