Report: Aguilera To Leave Label For Live Nation

Published: Sunday 8th Aug 2010 by Sam

Christina Aguilera’s ‘Bionic’ may be gathering dust in bargain-bins across the country, but that has not deterred the singer from pressing on with her career.

According to new reports, the album’s appalling performance has persuaded Aguilera, 29, to part ways with long-time label RCA/Sony Music, in favour of a move to Live Nation.

Full story after the jump…

Aguilera’s Live Nation deal is believed to have been orchestrated by current manager Irving Azoff – who coincidentally is the Chairman of…Live Nation.

Reportedly worth millions, the partnership will see the concert promoter have a hand in all of the 29 year old’s career endeavours – music, touring, and endorsements.

If true, the deal will no doubt be a major coup for the Entertainment powerhouse, who over the last two years have struck similar deals with Madonna, U2, and Jay-Z.

While change may just be what Aguilera’s career is in need of, it’ll be particularly interesting to see how this plays out. For, unlike the Madonna’s and Jay-Z’s of this world, Aguilera will not have been riding high in her career when making the move. Instead, she’ll clearly be cashing in on a connection (Azoff) to facilitate a deal, which otherwise would never have materialised.

After all, her sales have been in steady decline since 2002’s ‘Stripped’, and it’s unlikely RCA were fighting to keep her (particularly after the losses made on their grade-A promotion of ‘Bionic’). What’s more, this is ironically the same Live Nation who scrapped her tour due to poor ticket sales earlier this year.

In any case, the mother of one seems to have been extended a career life-line. Whether or not it’s too little, too late remains to be seen…
