Whitney hasn’t been “The Voice” in years. The title should have been given to someone who actually knows how to take care of those chops. Celine Dion for example.
The thing is that Whitney never sings a song the same way live. Anyone who tries to sing her songs miss what makes a whitney song, uniquely Whitney.
Whenever she sings a gospel song, look out for thos, ‘yes lords, my lord,’, ‘halleujah’, oh yes’, ‘thank you’ and that leg kick as well as thos trademark ‘uhhhs’
She sings this song like she is telling her life story which she is so after hearing her sing so earnesly with gospel licks and bravado, Mercede’s version sounds like watered down pop.

LOL at the person who said Charice can sing Whitney’s songs better than herself. Copying Whitney note for note, then throwing in a few extra high notes is not the same as surpassing Whitney’s interpretations. And LMAO at the person who said Celine Dion should be called The Voice. The woman’s voice is only intact cos she’s been lipping substantial portions of her shows since the early 90s. Until a voice better than Whitney Houston prime comes along and has an even bigger effect on music than Whitney’s did, Whitney will forever hold that title.
And this snippet was awful. So produced it’s not even funny. No soul, so feeling, no interpretive wit, just belting. This is why no one will ever surpass Whitney on her own songs. They don’t have her interpretive intelligence and her musicianship, let alone her voice. Voice along is not enough. Next please.

Hitting notes doesn’t make a great interpretation or a great singer and it’s not what made Whitney great. It was how she sung a lyric: her phrasing, use of melisma, dynamics, feeling. It was more than just belting and riffing with her.
To be honest this is only a snippet so i would judge it on top of that i like this version way better than whitneys no offense but its true

I’m sorry, I really enjoy Amber’s version. When I first time heard Whitney’s version of ” I look to you”, the very first thought pop to my head was “her angle-like voice is totally f*****, what happened?” If you don’t tell me the singer is Whitney, her voice is un-reconigizable, who is she?
