I thought the exact same thing when I read the title. Although this song is miles ahead of any Soulja B**** song (granted, that’s not saying much), it still sounds generic as hell. That’s why I don’t listen to Top 40 Radio anymore, practically everything sounds the same now.

Anywho….I like it! It’s gonna be a hit! The beat is hot, the hook is catchy as hell and its very pop. I think she will be able to capture mainstream audience with this one and with a hot video possibly even get a top ten on Hot 100! This could be the song that will get her out of that ‘just a BET artist’ category.
She did exactly what she needed to do just like with her last album. Just like with ‘Energy’, ‘Breaking Point’ was a good track lyrically and had a good message behind it, but it flopped hard so she went with the club banger “Turnin Me On’. “Pretty Gurl Rock’ is this albums ‘Turnin Me On’ except more pop and will be able to appeal more to a broader audience. Now hopefully the rest of the album will be able to bring it as well.

As for the actual post, I’m tired of so many great artists feeling inadequate and changing themselves. Look at ANY artist (pop specifically) and you see it.
* Katy Perry: had some integrity and difference with her debut but Teenage Dream (though really good and catchy) is very poppy and mainstream compared to One of the Boys.
* Rihanna: Did her reggae thing then went totally pop with A Girl Like Me. However, she brought her island-girl thing back with “Break It Off” and is now different again. A Girl Like Me was a little too generic though.
* Beyonce: B-Day was extremely generic to me. Her first and third albums, however, were really great and fantastic. I’m scared for her 4th album though. She wants to do party music…I’m scared of how that’ll turn out but excited too.
* Lady Gaga: She hasn’t done it yet but RedOne said Born This Way (drops in about 6 months) will be more mainstream than her past stuff so I think she’ll do the same.
* Ciara: Did her own urban/crunk thing until Fantasy Ride when she tried to be all successful with the dance thing and was just generic. Thank God she (like Beyonce) came to her senses and is going back to urban on Basic Instinct.
* Keri Hilson: Had a great, personal and well crafted debut and is going too generic for No Boys Allowed.
To me, No Boys Allowed seems really…cheap and rushed so far. I mean I heard in June that she was starting work on her new album and she’s releasing it in NOVEMBER? That’s quicker than my girl Ri churns out records! At least Loud took 6 months. I loved Keri’s In a Perfect World… but she’s really being bad with this. I like the idea of a girl power-anthemic record (there aren’t enough of those out) but her single covers, promotion, sound, hair, image and music videos (case and point: “Breaking Point” vid) are CHEAP right now. This girl did well with her debut – she deserves a budget. I think she should just cancel the No Boys Allowed release instead of giving false dates, delay it to next summer maybe, re-work it, get a better budget it and put out a better single next April or something.
And why don’t artists embrace their callings?
* Beyonce knows that she’s best in the albums department. Therefore she focuses on making great albums that win awards. She has some hit singles but that isn’t always her strong point.
* Rihanna knows singles are her strong point so she releases albums but goes CRAZY with promo for singles. And she does well.
* Katy Perry is like Rihanna, she releases albums but knows to focus on singles.
* Lady Gaga is exactly like the aforementioned. However, she is very creative and BRINGS it tourwise and videowise. She does the creativity/writing thing.
* Ciara knows her voice isn’t great but she BRINGS it with dancing and videos.
* Sadly, Keri doesn’t get it. She knows her singles do best with featured artists but she continually tries to release a hit solo single. She always says that she’s comfortable being her and not caring about the haters, but last summer she said that she wanted to release a hit solo single with “Slow Dance” to prove the haters wrong! We all know how that turned out…anyways, if she really doesn’t care about haters she should listen to Kelly Rowland, shake them off and do singles with featured artists – I mean, hey, Drake does a lot of that and gets huge record sales and big singles. Keri should embrace it, not hide away from it.

The tickets cost upwards of $200 for a remotely good seat (I went to Gaga's concert which cost $100 for a good seat) and she made $18 million HOWEVER the tour has only done about 64 shows. She didn't cancel many (5) and she's not finished. She's going to Australia from March to April next year. Plus she said that she's going to extend the tour through 2011 to promote Loud. Therefore, this isn't a flop of a tour.

I mean take Jordin Sparks – her tour played in venues of about 1,000 and she played to 35% capacity. Rihanna is a good singer and so is Keri. I have to agree with Soulful! Her debut was really a great album, especially ‘Intuition’, ‘Slow Dance’ & ‘Alienated’. I’ve been disappointed from everything I have listened to this era.

Her last album disappointed me. This song makes her song like she’s up herself, but I like the melody. I could grow to like this.
