Even during her ‘hiatus’, there is no stopping the force that is Beyonce. For, after a mere week on sale, the superstar singer’s ‘I Am…World Tour’ DVD has been certified Double Platinum.
Peep the press release we received from team Bouncy after the jump…
Beyonce’s I AM…WORLD TOUR full-length concert film, lensed during the artist’s record-breaking international concert tour, has been certified double platinum after its initial release on Friday, November 26. The deluxe DVD/Soundtrack edition—including the concert DVD, a live soundtrack, an exclusive, intimate documentary and explosive travelogue, and a 40-page collection of never-seen photos—was released on Tuesday, November 30. The DVD holds the #1 position on Nielsen SoundScan Music DVD chart.
In Brazil, where Beyonce played to massive audiences, including 60,000 in Sao Paulo, last winter, the DVD has been certified platinum.
The concert film, with it’s never-before-seen, intimate footage of the star around the world, played on big screens in select cities around the country on November 18, the two-year anniversary of the release of the multi-platinum I AM…SASHA FIERCE album, which has sold more than six million copies and 15 million digital singles worldwide, while earning a record-breaking six Grammy Awards, the most ever for a female artist in a single year, in 2010.
Having been to the tour and finally watched the DVD at its exclusive London screening last night, I can vouch for the fact that no one – male nor female – can come close to Beyonce performance-wise in today’s industry. No one.
Iconic status was clearly the objective with the show and its subsequent DVD release, and after watching it its safe to say she’s almost there (if not there already). At 29 years old, the former Destiny’s Child star has set the bar for performance and showmanship in today’s era, a feat which – love her or loathe her – should be applauded. More power to her!
Trent’s Sidebar:
Platinum status for DVD (video long form) products is accomplished when such records sell 100,000 copies. Hence, double platinum statues refers to an album that has sold 200,000 copies. Strangely, there is no trace of Beyonce’s ‘I Am…World Tour’ DVD in the RIAA database.
