Pregnant diva Mariah Carey kicked off the 78th Annual ‘Christmas in Rockefeller Center’ special on NBC with a performance of her Holiday Hit ‘Oh Santa’. The term ‘hit’, of course, being relative given the single’s failure to ignite mainstream charts globally; it has however performed well on the Billboard Holiday Chart. Take from that what you will.
In any case, check out the mother-to-be in action below…
Given Ms. Carey-Cannon’s condition, she somewhat gets a pass for this so-so performance. By no means was it ‘bad’, yet when one is bored a quarter-way through, clearly something isn’t quite right. Speaking of things not being right; so loud was the singer’s backing track, that it made it almost impossible to decipher which parts of the song were live and which featured her now-trademark lip-synching (save for a few obviously live adlibs, I was Confused.com).
Still, with a bun in the oven, Ol’ Mimi deserves to be cut a bit of slack. Ok, performance.
Trent’s Edit:
For those of you who actually watched the show you would know that Carey was the only person who attempted to sing live. Does anyone else remember when Boys II Men’s vocals mysteriously started playing during Charice’s performance? Obviously Sam is too deep in his illusions of Kelly Rowland’s relevancy and Whitney Houston’s former vocal glory to have known that piece of information.
Remember when Houston was on tour and could not finish her easiest songs because her “soprano friend does not like air conditioning”? Sam must have forgotten that.
