After experimenting with Pop on his platinum-certified ‘Raymond vs Raymond’ LP and achieving a worldwide #1 hit with ‘OMG (Ft. Will.i.am)’, Usher is ready to completely abandon his R&B roots and embrace a more radio-friendly sound.
The chart titan has revealed that his working on a completely new type of music called “Revolutionary Pop” which will be a combination of various genres. See what he had to say below:
I’m a consumer of culture and love mixing styles and inspirations, both in my music and my style. I’m working on a new genre of music — Revolutionary Pop — which combines several music genres to create a new sound experience. {Source}
It seems that Usher and Beyonce are both preparing to push their artistry to icon status. However, it’s ironic that they both seem eager to join the Pop music bandwagon when the most successful albums of their careers to date – ‘Confessions’ and ‘Dangerously In Love’ respectively – were contemporary R&B.
Still, with Pop now the dominant genre, it is arguable that the only way for them to have a major impact on a worldwide audience would be to adopt that sound. Hopefully, they find balance in their music like Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey, without neglecting their Urban audiences completely.
Sidebar: There is nothing new under the sun so it will be interesting to hear what Usher and Beyonce claim to invent.
