If then statements are clever, but they only work if you believe in BOTH premises. Billboard declared Beyonce the new Queen of Pop because of her dominance. Pop music is popular music, and by God, Beyonce Knowles music is popular.
She barely does what you consider “pop”, but sells like she does that sort of music. She’s basically contemporary R&B with a dash of pop here of there, but she’s made contemporary R&B pop music just by being the FORCE that she is. You have to admit, that’s pretty impressive, even if you aren’t a fan. I’m not a fan myself, but I do think she’s the new Queen of popular music.
No one dances, performs, delivers, sings, as consistently and as powerfully as Beyonce in her category.

I feel sorry for anyone who measures the worth of an artist by how well they do commercially. People like that take all the fun out of the music listening experience and turn it into a f****** competition. Who cares who has the most #1s, who sold the most records, yada yada yada. None of that means anything when it comes to talent and quality. There are artists which s*** on every artist mentioned on here that haven’t even sold a fraction of what your faves have sold. Fortunately for them, they have fans who don’t care about numbers. Remember that popularity doesn’t denote quality, so don’t get so cocky about your fave being #1 for however many weeks or selling the most albums.

Writing does NOT determine your worth as an artist! For one, in the 60s-80s very few mainstream/Soul acts wrote their own music, they had the talent, the writers had the music!
I look at writing like this. No one comes after actors for not writing the scripts to the movies they play in! The directors are amazing at WRITING the movies, but when it comes to bringing them to life the actors are the ones they need! Then there’s directors who also happen to be actors. I think Christina is a good vocalist but her technique for the past 13 years is making her lose it. You can hear it in her live performances, she’s straining. Same with Mimi, I hate to say it but she lost some of her voice to all those years of whistling and touring has done a number on hers.

No, she’s still in her vocal prime. Bey’s technique is what makes her a superior vocalist against Strain. Strain uses her throat and when she belts her larynx is high, so it doesn’t give her vocal chords time to rest. She needs to keep her larynx neutral and she doesn’t do that. That’s why she can’t hit them notes like before.

Beyonce will likely keep her voice because her singing style is not as demanding and unique as vocalists who give their all and are passionate when they sing like Xtina, Mariah, (in her prime, hence why she lost it), Alicia, Whitney (but we know the crack didnt help too lol) and th elist goes on.
Beyonce’s voice is not all that and doesn’t belong in any list of best singers ever because she’s limited and doesn’t sound unique. Her voice is thin and not powerful. I’m trying to get into Country but Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill are the only ones I can tolerate for now. Well IMO Radiohead makes the most diverse sounds, and so they’re far more interesting to me. Muse, I feel, has been rehashing the same sound since Absolution, with the whole epic gimmick, the operatic voice, the galloping drums, and space and the apocalypse etc. etc. They’re pretty technically skilled and they are capable of making good music, but they aren’t very risky at all, and that makes them lose cred for me.
Radiohead is Legendary Period, and Paved the way for Muse. the dept in there music, lyrics and variety of there sound alone is incredible.
