From The Vault: Maxwell – ‘Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)’

Published: Sunday 6th Mar 2011 by Trent

This week’s From The Vault comes all the way from 1996 courtesy of Maxwell. Released as the 2nd single from his debut album, ‘Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite’, ‘Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)’ was the 1st of many hits for the falsetto master, peaking at #8 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #28 on the Billboard Hot 100.

This song is a true classic of 90s R&B and still enjoys consistent airplay (even here in Trinidad). Maxwell is definitely one of the best singers (male or female) that the industry has seen in a long time and what is most impressive is the fact that his vocal prowess has only gotten better.

If you want to test the power of this record then simply play it in a large crowd and see what happens.
