In the words of the Black Eyed Peas; ‘where is the love?’ At least that is question Jennifer Lopez will be asking after record-buyers shunned her latest LP -in a big way.
Indeed, despite a mammoth promotional campaign and a weekly slot on American Idol, sales of the 41 year old’s Def Jam debut are set to disappoint.

According to Hits Daily Double, ‘LOVE?’ will limp into the Billboard 200 this week at #5 with sales of just 80,000. This marks Lopez’s second lowest English-language first week figures to date; with 2007 chart horror ‘Brave’ serving as her worst (53,000).
Yet, should sales not pick up or remain at the very least steady, industry analysts will no doubt brand this the bigger catastrophe of the two. For, while ‘Brave’ delivered dud after dud (‘Do It Well’, ‘Hold It, Don’t Drop It’), this latest release has delivered bonafide hits (see: ‘On The Floor’, ‘I’m Into You’). Clearly to no avail.
Still, one shouldn’t discount the positive face of the project. After all, even if it tanks terribly, it has succeeded in one thing: returning the singer to the top of the Single and radio charts. An occurrence her age (industry bias) and recent career woes would have otherwise never allowed.
Further up on the tally, Adele continues to shine, selling another 154,000 copies of her sophomore set ’21’ – earning the Brit a 7th straight week at the top. While elsewhere, Sade‘s ‘Ultimate Collection’ bows in with 36,000.

Being a judge on American Idol is NOT enough. On the Floor and I’m into You NEED live performances on a multitude of different programs to spread the word. Just because On the Floor did well without promo, her label shouldn’t become complacent. Btw, #5 for a debut isn’t that bad, some albums take weeks to peak.

Successful Singles Do Not Equal Successful Album Sales
It’s amazing, some artists would sell this much and everyone would be calling it a complete “flop” but for some reason other artists get a pass. There Are valid reasons that artists don’t sell high but I don’t know why Lopez is at the lower end. Album sales are no where around where they should be but some artists still can successfully sell full length albums.
This is low….period , but it’s not the end of the world( I think). Some artists seem to be strongr single sellers while some artists get more album sales but fewer single sales. I guess that’s how it is.

Downloads ain’t nothing who cares about a 1 and 29 cent single, thats ain’t much. This was decent for JLo. She was expected to sale only 60 65k. If she cranks out the hits this album will be fine. Her album is good, she just didn’t perform enough. I don’t know why she’s doing interviews and not performing. She needs to promote as much as she can. But these numbers are not bad.

I really don’t think these last minute promotionals are going to work anymore. Artists are going to have to “hustle and grind” like they use to! I think we are in a new era! Exposure due to ones day job (judge on American Idol, The Voice, The X Factor) may not guarantee CD/Single sell success! It’s funny, JLO and others have been litereally on every daytime, midday and evening talkshow. They have also graced the cover of almost every magazine and just look at the results. It’s nice to know that the media’s “PETS” have to work for their “supper” too!! 🙂

I don’t think that’s too bad considering. If she had sold 100k this week and dropped down to 20k next week, people would still consider it a flop. 100k the first week doesn’t make an album a flop especially these days. I don’t really put too much stock in numbers. BIG numbers don’t mean it’s a GOOD album. Some of the worst music I’ve ever heard has sold HUGE numbers.
J. Lo to me, is not a good singer. She does about equal the average human being who can hold a tune.

Gaga is one of the “It” girls right now, JLo has had to build in terms of her success again. She was expected to do 60 to 65k, so 80k is decent for her, she has alot of potential hits on this album. She’s gonna be alright. So i say that she’s doing pretty well, but these artists need to stop promoting so late, because that does not help their album sales any longer, well most of them anyway.
She looks spectacular and her performance on Idol was awesome.

The difference between Jennifer Flopez and Bruno Mars is that Bruno Mars is actually talented whereas Ms. Flopez is just a hot ass with a pretty face. On the floor is about as much success as she is going to achieve with this album. On the flip side at least she is doing better than her dead beat stay at home husband Marc Anthony.

I think that the truth is, whilst some artists a strong single seller and weak album seller, there are others who are strong album sellers but weak single sellers…….In modern times, it’s been quite the same…….
Lets look at ‘Mary. J. Blidge’ – She has only had one number one single on the ‘HOT 100″ = “Family Affair (6 weeks in 2001) and only two TOP 5 singles = “NOT GON’ CRY” (1996 – No.2) and “Be Without You” (2006 – No.2 for one week and No.3 for 5 weeks) but she has had SEVEN CONSECUTIVE NUMBER ONE ALBUMS!!!!!!!
Radiohead – They have had 4 number one albums on the BILLBOARD 200 and not even a TOP 20 single on the HOT 100
