Pop diva Nicole Scherzinger is riding high after being unveiled as the host of the X Factor USA.
However, with reliable sources alledging she was being lined up to judge on the Fox show, many were surprised to see the former Pussycat Doll assuming hosting duties. Co-hosting, at that.
With filming for the much-talked about show underway, Scherzinger took a moment out to address the drama, shedding light on her the recruitment process, and why she prefers presenting to judging.
Check out what she had to say after the jump…

How does it feel to be a part of the cast?
It feels great. I love keeping busy. It’s a challenge. It’s something new and it’s cool to be a part of such a phenomenal show. I was a part of “The X Factor” in London and Simon’s just amazing to work with. I’ve never really been a host before, so it’s definitely a new adventure for me. I’m making my job not traditional with all this stuff, so it’s a lot of fun.
Did Simon approach you with the opportunity?
Yes. After I judged on “The X Factor” U.K., Simon had talked to me ever since then, all the way since last year. He always expressed interest so that’s where we started our relationship, and I had a really great time on the show.
Were there ever discussions about having you on as a judge instead of a host?
There were talks going back and forth, but—I’m actually happy they asked me to host because for me, the reason I’m doing it is because this is what I love and this is what I know and this is what I’m passionate about. It’s my way to give back and pay it forward and be supportive and to kinda be the artist ambassador. I feel like I’m better served being a host because I’m able to empower the contestants and encourage them as opposed to having to be in a position to say no.
How did you prepare for the job?
I did one red carpet event [for] the American Music Awards, which kinda freaked me out. But it was cool. Honestly, I haven’t prepared. I think I’ve been preparing my whole life and it’s just kinda like being in the present. I love people so it’s easy for me because I’m able to work with people every day, work with these contestants and their families and help them go through this process.
You just started taping two days ago. How’s it going so far?
Amazing. Very, very long days. The show’s gonna be out of this world.
Echoing earlier sentiments, it’ll be unnerving to see Nicole stand hosting, while lessors sit judging the talent. Bless her for trying to keep it PC, but facts are facts.
That said, next to all involved are there for promotional gain; hence be it judging, hosting, or competing, surely everyone is ‘winning’ one way or another. Whether viewers will be when the show’s launches this Fall will be interesting to see.
