According to HitsDailyDouble, ‘4’ has sold 313,420 units in this chart week alone making it the starlets lowest selling first week figure to date.
Sure to be this week’s Billboard 200 #1, the album received an enormous promotional push in the US this week after the airing of the documentary ‘Year Of 4′ and show stopping performances at ‘Good Morning America’ and last night at the Statue Of Liberty for the Independence Day celebrations.
With the final sales number set to surface tomorrow, the figure is sure to be very close in appearance to the figure published by Hits Daily Double.
Whilst 313,000 units may not be what many of her innovatively named BeyHive were hoping for, it is worth noting that this is arguably very commendable.
For this figure was achieved after just two weeks of intensive promotion and without the aid of a #1 single and the luxury of discounted prices.

Bey’s a very hardworking artist that deserves everything awarded to her in this life. i was hoping 350-400k , its not a flop, but for b’s standards its not good. Like stated before she dissapeared after the billboard awards and the run the world was a moderate success, peaked at 29 on the billboard 100 and then plunged off the charts. But shes going top re release this record, just like she dod with B-day around christmas when album sales are much higher. Her lastest single will crack the top 10, if the video is good enough. I hope the best for her. 4 is her second best album. A pop version of her first record. She’s going on a 18 month pro tour, so that’s fine. the album will sell 1 million copies by christmas so it doesnt matter. Anyhow kelly’s album will probably barely sell 100k in its first week. lol

Some of you that keep focusing on the decline in her first week totals aren’t taking into account that she’s been in the game for 15 years. It’s about longevity. So mnay people are extremely huge for 2 or 3 years and then end up fizzling out. It’s not about topping your last era each time you start a new one. MJ, Madonna, Whitney, Janet and Mariah have all seen declines, but so many artist didn’t remain relevant for as long as them and that’s what any artist would want to accomplish. Bey’s proven herself and has done enough to leave her mark, she was the artist of the decade after 2010! Her impact will be felt and people will have high praises in regards to her legacy. i knew someone would bring this u. take a look at both singles and albums chart hun, no parallel whatsoever. adele has been selling off one hit single in the US. pitbull is the lastest example of a singles artist. wasnt his album released last week and he’s out top ten already. Some of you that keep focusing on the decline in her first week totals aren’t taking into account that she’s been in the game for 15 years. It’s about longevity. So mnay people are extremely huge for 2 or 3 years and then end up fizzling out. It’s not about topping your last era each time you start a new one. MJ, Madonna, Whitney, Janet and Mariah have all seen declines, but so many artist didn’t remain relevant for as long as them and that’s what any artist would want to accomplish. Bey’s proven herself and has done enough to leave her mark, she was the artist of the decade after 2010! Her impact will be felt and people will have high praises in regards to her legacy. Right now it’s about making quality music – that’s still landing her at #1 today. That’s an amzing feat! Where will most of these flash in the pans end up after 15 years from their debut album?

I think the reason why Rihanna, Ciara, and Keri Hilson get so much shade on this site is because their always trying to come for someone. Man down, and California Bed flopped, she had to release a remix with britany for S&M to go #1, her label reduced Only girl to .99 cents just to get that #1. Her first two eras did not do well either would you call her a flop? So why would you call Beyonce a flop when even though RTWG did not chart well in the US, her album is topping the main charts all over the world. BTINH is now #13 on itunes because of her 4th of July performance, we just need that video to take it to the top 10. Also for a Rihanna stan to say Beyonce only has first week sales, if that was the case IASF would have not have sold 6.9 million, and that album was 85% ballads with songs like AVE Maria…what the hell. Rihanna, Ciara, and Keri could never release and album like IASF and be successful. Anyway, honestly with the album leaking a month early and her lack of promo in the US so far I thought she would have sold in the low 200 thousands, so 313,000 is still good. I hope in the following weeks she does a lot of promo in the US so the album can maintain those numbers.

I don’t know why Beyonce fans are coming at Gaga’s sales. Even without Amazon, Born This Way would’ve still sold nearly 700K in the 1st week, which more than any Beyonce or Destiny’s Child album. The Fame has outsold all 4 of Beyonce’s albums and Destiny’s Child’s albums except TWOTW. Born This Way is almost at 1.75 million in the US and at 4 million WW in under 2 months. Don’t get me wrong, I actually bought 4 because I am also a Beyonce fan, but some of her stans act entirely too tough for me. Album sales have been decreasing since 2000. This album was released in a quiet June period. Taylor’s albums are always released at the end of the year when sales are at their highest. Always 4 did not have no hit singles before it’s release making some people not knowing Beyonce had an album opposed to Taylor who has huge hit singles before her album as that creates a buzz.
Also, I didn’t say Beyonce doesn’t appeal to young crowd of course she does. But Beyonce’s music isn’t exclusively aimed tween fans like Taylor’s music is aimed at. And a mainly tween fanbase does tend to buy more albums than normal album buyers so obivously Taylor will have good sales. Just look at Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato and all those tween stars.

It’s not her concern. This woman has been doing that for 15 years. She’s taking risks and giving herself new challenges. It’s going to pay off–because her album sales are going to be consistent. Not dip from 1 million to 100,000 in a week. She’s not trying to sell her singles, either. She’s selling her music as a whole. Kelly, Beyonce and Michelle are true talents—and they’ve got other fans pressed.
The fact of the matter is this, So what Gaga may have sold 2 million 1st week and Beyonce sales 1st week may have been 750K, the point is this Bey’s album has much more critical acclaim and she will receive more grammy’s for this great album. Beyonce is not a gimmick artist but a artist’s artist. Now so many have asked her to go back to her DIL era and more soulful r&b, more mature and now that she gave her fans what they ask for, and not all the studio era pop auto tune and people is still being doggish in their comments about how she’s boring, how dare you haters. The amount of records she sells is of no importance to me. All I know is Beyonce has delivered an album that is considered her magnum opus. There is no question that vocally she is the female vocalist of our generation. And as a FAN, I can honestly say that I love the growth she has shown, both artistically and vocally.

But that’s the thing, I’m not a stan. I’ve never bragged about her album sales, the most I’ve ever said is that she’s consistent. I’m a fan and I’ll critique her as a fan. I was highly disappointed with Run The World, the video and the overall promotion for the album. I disagree with a lot of her previous album tracks (i.e. Video Phone, Diva)
And I don’t bring up other artists to degrade or denounce their talents. The only time I’ve brought up another artist was to prove a point, like this: Janelle Monae would be considered a “flop” by many stans, but that doesn’t stop me for loving her music and enjoying her in concert. The amount of popularity she has no effect on the way I see her or cuz me to have negative feelings for music.

Very good sales figures for Beyonce. Many thought that 4 would be her Bionic but she proved that with hard work and determination that things could turn around for the better. I’m not a huge fan but I do enjoy 4 and regardless I will never hate on ones success, that sh*t is for the birds.
On another note, I see the Gaga shade with the mentioning of a discount. That’s cute and all but while you may not be feeling ‘Born This Way’, don’t forget that even without the discount Gaga sold a sh*tload of albums. I’d say that’s also impressive considering the backlash that has been occurring, the consistent nitpicking and illegal downloading of the album that took place. Not to mention for Amazon to be willing to take a hit to promote their Cloud Service by using her name, it just goes to show how big of a star she is. 🙂

Including britney spears, lets face it. brintey has been through alot of shid, leave her alone, she may not be the best singer, but her songs are cathy and she is a good performer, not the beat, but she is talented in her own way, so i love and apppreaciate her music, because i like dance, pop and R&b music, she’s influenced by Janet and madonna. Britney is a legend in her own way, even though Femme Fatale is her lowest selling album, its her best record, vocally and production wise. Now Adele is killing the game, luv 21, she is amazing. Rihanna is talented in some ways, but not on the level of Beyonce or Adele, or even britney Spears, Rihanna has an okay voice, but she is a radio artist and only that. Album sales moderate and are okay, but she has close to 10 number hit singles so she is doind something right. Ciara, keri, Keyshia, they need better promotion and need to go to a label that will push them more. As far as kelly Rowland, i luv motivation, but it took her to be a s*** to finally get attention. commander, grown ass woman were beter songs. As far as beyonce she works hard, beautiful and very talented. She promoted the ell out of this album and i must say, i love 4, it is an amazing work of art, but 300k for an artist as big as Beyonce is not good enough. She lost some of her fan base, with run the world, which was a weak first single, but the second single will gain radio play and will crack the top 10. Trust me there will be a re release, with new songs, by December to increase the album sales, just like b’day. I luv beyonce, she is the best living performer, but the truth is the truth. 300k is moderate for an artist like Beyonce. for keri, ciara, or kelly or rihanna it would be the highlight of their careers, lol, but their fanbase isnt as big as beyonce. bet you kelly’s album will barley sell 100k in its first week and i luv beyonce and kelly, just stating the truth!

I really really appreciate this album. I just love that it’s not your everyday generic pop music. Because of the music on the album I DO NOT expect a huge surge in sales or consistency of sales because the music isn’t radio friendly. I think it will start falling like a ton of bricks after next week. What WILL help her sales is that she tours well (Bey is all about the visual) so every city she visits will have a slight increase in “albums sold” that weekend but other than that I’m thinking she won’t go platinum for a few months (like not till after Labor Day)

Are people seriously saying one of the reasons the album didn’t do as well as expected is because it was leaked? They leaked the album that way they can use it as an excuse in case it didn’t sell as well as they thought it would. And, people are falling for it. I knew this was going to happen. However, for an artist that has been in the business for 15 years, this is not good. From “B’Day” on down to “4”, each album started selling less and less in terms of first week sales. As an artist, you’re supposed to progress, not regress. So, even though 313,420 units is not bad in itself, for someone like Beyonce, it is. After the countless magazine covers and articles, The Oprah Winfrey Finale, The Billboard Awards, her via satellite performance on BET, the premier of her, “Who Run The World (Girls) video,support from her fans and “stans” alike, you mean to tell me that all that was sold was 313,420 units? It should have done way more than this. Her album will go on to do well. However, it will never be the way it was before. Beyonce has reached her peak. In a nutshell whether we want to except it or not, I think people are just tired of Beyonce.

Well I don’t know about any other fans, but i’m not a fan of Beyonce because of her numbers. These are cool numbers, but I don’t care! When I look at Beyonce and see her perform, I see someone who captures the pure essence of being a star. It’s not about being an open book and letting other people read everything about you, but it’s about when you step on the stage and in the studio you give your all. She is a artist/ performer and that is what she does! She does that and that shows she respects the art of performing! It is a shame that the music industry has become nothing but an album counter. Lets face it artist should not be concerned about album sells, but making music they like!! (2008) Sasha Fierce,” which sold 482000 copies during its first week in stores.
(2006) B-day The album sold 541000 units first week into its release
In (2003) Dangerously in Love selling 317,000 copies in its first week.
8 years since her debut release CD she has sold less then 3580. I however will give her and her label credit on their 50% less marketing for the Cd still selling 313k in a time that selling even 200k has been difficult in an artist debut release. But regardless, soon in another decade where most will be lucky to sell 20,000 in their first week only shows that Cd sales are almost over and record labels will be hurting even more. Beyonce should really think about retirement before she goes out selling only 20k in her first week of release in the years to come!

– “Femme Fatale” also had a three week early leak
– “Femme Fatale” was released in March, a time when album sales move off shelves at slug paces. I’m not being biased here, but, if “Femme Fatale” and “4” were released in the same week – we all know who would sell bigger; “Femme Fatale”.
– While the first week figures for “4” are respectable, it’s far too early to be calling it “a worldwide smash”, first week sales are from an artist’s core fan base. It’s the second week sales that will count the most. If she declines as fast as “Born This Way” in her second week then she’ll have a serious issue on her hands.
Just to get one thing clear, I am not a Beyonce hater; nor am I a fan. I just express my opinions 🙂

HDD revised the prediction to 290-310K, so they were just about right. I thought it was really arrogant on behalf of a lot of the Bey stans to be suggesting that not only was HDD (the most trusted source in the industry for receipts and predictions) wrong, but that HDD was supposedly wrong by 100’s of thousands of units. I mean, that was the height of reaching. Usually when HDD is wrong, they’re only off by >10-30K, which is the case here. Case and point, LOUD was predicted to sell 180-200K in the first week in the US, but wound up selling about 8-10K more.
It’s really not the first week that you should be concerned about. It’s those second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. week numbers that you really want to pay attention to, because when HDD said said 290-310K, the first week was a done deal. Rihanna proves that it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Taylor Swift’s Speak Now sold 1M in one week but is currently at 4.2M sold WW. With a little more promo and a few more hit songs, LOUD is 4.5 M sold WW.
By the way Gaga is at or above 1.5 million units now.

Hey what bee has sold so far is still great considering the three weeks early cd leak, the state of the music industry and harder to sell your music now.
