I can hear the potential in her voice, shes needs a year with a good vocal coach and then she’ll be great but right now its just raw talent, but I can till accept it even. Beyonce/Adele/Nicole Scherzinger (all different types of voices) were just raw talents once and now listen to them.

There are many black UK singers doing so well in the UK. Alexandra Burke, Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Rizzle Kicks, Loick Essien, Taio Cruz, Leona Lewis.
It’s so much better now than it was a few years ago when Jamelia was the only successful black singer.

There is nothing fresh/special/new about this girl. I liked some of her performances on X Factor but there was nothing like “wow, she’s absolutely fantastic” or whatever. To me, she’s just like everyone else: singing with a touch of rapping.
Personally, I’m getting very tired of these dance songs on the radio. I just want music which highlights a person’s talent, not how little they can wear. If Cher had come along maybe a couple of years ago then it could have worked, but I get the feeling that music is ready to shift again into a different direction.
But i just dnt like her…..damnit!……
I think she’s good, but I know she can do it better. And for those who say she copied jessie J its false.. They are different but sometimes look similar because they come from the uk.. Have the same accent. You should look her audition: turn my swag on or viva la vida, than you see what she can really sing.. That girl is crazy.. Especially when she raps.. Whilst there may be some truth behind some of what you are saying, let’s not act silly and pretend this is a UK only thing – Adele has been slaying your charts over in the US.
And another thought for you: record companies do will make them money, if people in the US are happy to consume Adele’s “imitation of black urban culture” because she is white then what does it say about YOUR country?

TIMMI you are speaking the truth it is still hard in the UK and the US for our singers to get the respect and publicity that they are due.As you said Adele is doing what Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Fantasia and Marsha are doing yet she is everywhere selling millions and they are still in her shadow.Record companies from the time of Elvis have been putting a white face on black music styles and have not wanted to push black artitsts that only changed with Motown.Do not forget that MTV would not play black music videos until Michael Jackson came along with Thriller that is how bad it was.The UK acts are talented and I think Alexandra Burke,VV Brown, Tinnie Tempah, Taio Cruz, Chipmunk and Loick are all amazing but so much of there success is based on working twice as hard and always having to be consistent.The trouble with Cher is that she used to boast that she was bringing something different and wrote her own songs the truth is she is bringing nothing new other than people waking up to the fact that she really is not a good singer, rapper or dancer.

Urban culture being the operative word here. In the UK, it is a multi-cultural society. There is black people, asian people, polish people, white british, traveller. All there is each of each ethnicity and race in each social class. There is pretty much equal amounts of white people living in poverty as there is black. Whereas in America, it is mainly black people living in poverty and in the ‘ghettos’. So why should white people not talk about having a rough life, in an URBAN COMMUNITY if this is what they have experienced? Isn’t this was eminem does – he is white. And he is probably the most successful rapper of this generation. Not because he is white, so is more marketable – because he has more talent! Simple!
Don’t pull the racism card on the UK, because we have that many laws and policies in place there is no room to be racist in a proffessional setting.
