Kelly Rowland ushers in the Summer season with sizzling new single ‘Lay It On Me’. The Hitboy produced cut follows her chart-topping smash ‘Motivation’ – which sits atop of the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop tally for its 7th week.
Last month saw an unfinished demo version of the track do the net rounds, however the latest incarnation of the track is confirmed to be the official single mix.
Take a listen after the jump…
With ‘Motivation’ serving as her biggest solo hit to date, its follow-up called for Rowland to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Luckily for the 30 year old, she’s done just that – and then some.
For, though not her most sophisticated effort (particularly on a lyrical tip), the track is laced with a friendly melody, and enough lush hooks and vocal trinklets (“eh eh’s” “oh-oh’s”, and “so-lo”s”) to ensure it packs within it all the ‘radio friendly’ needed to facilitate a hit.
While its predecessor’s success took many by surprise given the current musical climate, this sees Ms. Kelly plant her stiletto’s firmly in the thick of what’s hot at present (guest rapper included) – and we’re not mad at her either. For, given her past mis-handling, this project needs to yield hits so as to give her a platform to carve out her own niche with later releases. And a hit this is.
All we need now is a banging ‘Forever And A Day’– esque video (ideally within the next two weeks) and this child of Destiny’s really can proclaim ‘Here I Am’. Rowland’s album of the same name hits stores on July 26th.
