Laurieann Gibson Wants To ‘Remake’ Chris Brown

Published: Thursday 18th Aug 2011 by Rashad

Famed choreographer Laurieann Gibson has recently found success in her BET top-rated dance competition‘Born To Dance’.  Heavy on the promo trail for the named showing, one of Gibson’s interviews recently came under fire as she cited herself as the reason for Lady Gaga‘s success.

Now (in another interview), the former ‘Fly-Girl’ has made more interesting commenets – weighing in on other celebrities, namely R&B bad boy Chris Brown.  See what the Canadian choreographer had to say about this and who made her ‘choreography wish list’ after the jump:

So you’re currently judging So You Think You Can Dance, E! The Dance Scene has just finished airing and Born To Dance is just beginning on BET. How much of what is aired on the reality shows is really Laurieann?

I mean you see a hyper version of me from the 30 minutes on E! but I think the most exciting thing about Born To Dance is that you get to see absolutely who I am, why I’m doing what I do and the fact that I’m helping one girl in my dance community to make it as a dancer. I need to start supporting the dancers, this is who I am, 110% more than any other show.

You directed Keri Hilson’s video for The Way You Love Me and there was quite a lot of fuss about the sexual content in the video. What did you have to say about the negative backlash?

Keri is an incredible artist and you know I’m just quite sad that people fear what they can’t control and what they fear they can’t become and you’re on the right track when you cause that kind of emotional stir. I loved the video, I thought she looked beautiful. I didn’t write the song, I think the song was more of a deal than the video.

Are there any artists that you haven’t worked with that you would like to?

Right now, I love Adele’s album, I’d like to creative direct her tour maybe. I’m inspired by the music and the journey of an artist and the soul of an artist and challenges they face so you know, it’s like a big old connection.

Are there any artists that have found it too intense working with you?

Oh absolutely a lot of them have found me completely too intense but you know they’re not charting…

So you’re not going to drop any names?

Never would I do that…they might come back so I wouldn’t want to do that.

If you could take any artist either upcoming or established and completely reinvent them who would it be?

I think and not that anything is wrong with what he’s doing, it’s because I believe in his greatness; it would probably be Chris Brown. He’s so talented, so just choreographically and visually…well I can’t tell you because then I’ll have to kill you.

Modest much?
