With hopes of placing those heels back atop a once promenaded pop plateau, R&B veteran Brandy has had fans buzzing with promises of new music in the new year. And, while faithful followers of the ‘Full Moon’ maestra are keeping up with her on the acting front (see: 90210, Drop Dead Diva), she has been hard at work crafting a ‘futuristic R&B album’ with R&B bad boy Chris Brown, Rico Love, Bangladesh, and Frank Ocean all signing on for writing/producing credits.
However, the recent unveiling of ‘The Pen’ Sean Garrett‘s enlistment on the production panel will assuredly have tongues wagging as he is responsible for some of the genre’s biggest hits over the past decade (Beyonce, Usher, Ciara).
In an impromptu behind-the-scenes studio session broadcast via UStream, Garrett gave fans a peek into what he and B-Rocka had been up to. The clip even lends a brief (and we do mean brief) snippet from what is expected to be the songstress’s first single from the upcoming album. See this and more after the jump:
As one who is more than anxious to see what Ms. Norwood is cooking up, I certainly cannot wait for a longer snippet or the full release of her forthcoming single. While she may not boast some of the chart or sales numbers of today’s Billboard titans, the quality of B-Rocka’s production, vocals, and arrangements thereof are unmatched – especially in the mainstream pop/R&B market.
With Chris Brown and Sean Garrett behind the wheels (to whatever degree), the fusion of classic Bran with contemporary hip-hop/R&B may be exactly what she needs to reignite her own chart reign and interest in her often – and unfortunately – overlooked talent.

^This and then some.., because Brandy is really one of the few talented artists left who puts ensuring the quality and consistency of her music above all other commitments. Say what you will but when applied to her music Brandy’s focus is unparalleled. IMO fashion, fragrance and endorsements etc. are all key to making money in this day and age but that should never take precedence over ensuring their music is the best and most cohesive it can be.

The internet is such a useful tool in today’s day and it bothers me when people don’t use it to their advantage, Brandy needs to get her Twitter and U-Stream poppin, fix that disaster of a website and change the color because it doesn’t keep anyone interested at all. She should also start making some pre-album release rounds even if it’s at small venues so people know she is definitely on a come back trail. If she doesn’t do the who reality Tv thing that’s fine, I remember you guys saying that she is doing a web series so she needs to start showing the like NOW, I hope she doesn’t expect to show that like a month or two before the album drops and expect it to works wonder because it won’t.

Music and the content of Brandy’s sound has never been the issue with her…Brandy hasn’t made a bad album EVER…The real challenge comes with getting the music out there…The music needs to be heard as much as possible…and that’s where the promo comes in! The music will be there the music has to be promoted and her exposure needs to be increased and sustained at a high level.
OK BRANDY – HUGE FAN HERE GIVING ADVICE
FRANK OCEAN – great idea for Brandy MUSICALLY, but make sure it is not throwaway tracks but great work designed esp. for her (i think 3 tracks+ would be great)
Focus on timeless, great music not just being futuristic – you don’t want to end up having a dirty money-esque album; she needs to talk about RELATIONSHIPS as opposed to ideas (which is why Human failed) — think Adele -> Brandy could do some Adelesque tracks vocally
TARGETED ADVICE – do not work with the following – Timbaland (his beats are played out and he is no longer innovative); J Cole (do not want a feature with him sorry), NO REDONE or David Guetta but we do need UPTEMPO (not just midtempo); i wouldn’t blacklist Darkchild but limit to 1 or 2 excellent tracks (if they haven’t had a falling out); also i’d try to strictly limit working w/ Rico Love to prevent Kelly Rowland comparison (or not use at all) / it was great advice for her to standout with fashion – go over the top to stand out (a la Gaga, but stay edgy and uncorny and not costumey to prevent comparision to Minaj/Gaga)

GO ON THE VIEW as promo and guest cohost – we need cross over media performances to WHITE AUDIENCES if you want to sell. we know people will bootleg the ish out of the new album if she doesn’t focus on CROSSING OVER (like she did in the past with Cinderella, Moesha, I Know What You Did Last Summer).
DO NOT go the Kelly Rowland route – her new album is pretty much a flop. TRY TO GO BACK TO THE OLD HIP-HOP INFLUENCE MAYBE for a few tracks.
