Latavia isn’t the only of Destiny’s (former) Children making headlines today as ‘She Don’t’ songstress Letoya Luckett recently sat down with Essence magazine to dish on her many upcoming ventures. Already a spokesperson for Luster’s haircare products and dabbling in film and television, the Houston native is looking to take on her biggest role yet – ‘From The Rough’.
‘Rough’, an inspirational sports drama due in theaters next year, sees Luckett star opposite famed actors Michael Clark Duncan and Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson. Find out what the ‘Torn’ singer talked about regarding the film, Destiny’s Child, and rumors she and rapper Slim Thug are an item again all after the jump:
Thanks to Essence:
ESSENCE.com: What is the film “From the Rough” about?
LETOYA LUCKETT: It stars Taraji P. Henson, Michael Clark Duncan, and Tom Felton of “Harry Potter.” It’s a true story about Coach Starks, the first — not just African-American — but female to coach a men’s golf team. My character Stacey was one of her students and I fall in love with Tom Felton’s character.ESSENCE: Did you feel intimidated working with veterans like Taraji P. Henson and Michael Clark Duncan?
LETOYA: I loved working with Michael Clark Duncan and I’m learning so much from Taraji. Of course I was nervous, but at the same time I was trying to take in and learn as much as I possibly could.ESSENCE: We heard you’re in the studio now, what can we expect from the new album?
LETOYA: I am so excited about the new album. Of course it’s going to be R&B, I gotta stay true to my fans. But I want to try some different stuff. I’ve grown from the last album. So, I’m definitely gonna tell my story as I always do. But I’m going to try some different stuff: more live instruments, some soulful stuff, and more uptempos on this album. A lot of people compliment the fact that all of my songs tell a story. I’m actually doing a docu-webseries that I’m releasing on my Twitter (@LeToyaLuckett). I’m going to let the camera in and let the fans in on the progress of this album and other things I’m promoting as well.ESSENCE: Are you still in contact with your Destiny’s Child alums?
LETOYA: I am! I talk to Kelly all the time. I’m always getting on her about getting rest, and telling her how proud I am of her. She’s working… we’re all working! I’m so happy for Beyonce and the baby and Jay. We all keep in contact. A lot of times people want to make things into a beef or a competition, and I’m like, y’all have no idea!ESSENCE: Word on the tweets is that you and Slim Thug are back together. Is it true?
LETOYA: That’s very false. It’s super false. I wish him the best.
Letoya>>>>>>>>>>>>BLEACHonce
haha
I love the way LeToya handles business… She has really transitioned into her own!!!
Damn Letoya and LaTavia still talking Destiny’s Child just to help promote their projects. They really should stop! They’re not apart of the group anymore and they weren’t the ones who made the group one of the best-selling girl groups of all time! Beyonce, Kelly & Michelle forever!!
flop b**** no one is checking for… Please take many seats & star in a real movie …. that won[t get shelved like basic bitchs c-error yall could never be in a battleship movie NEVER
just when we thought Kelly was cut loose from the DC umbilical cord, Letoya re-ties it to her body. how many years will it take b4 it gets severed?
is this destiny child’s reunion day??
Can’t Letoya and Latavia stop talking about Destiny’s Child? It has been over 10 years since they parted ways. You don’t see people asking about DC to Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, because they have their own solo careers. I like them and wish the best, but this needs to stop.
I am not going to comment on this post….AT ALL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only part I read was the DC thing i didnt give a s*** about the rest !
!. I love Letoya. Love her swag and her songs are actually well written. 2. I dont know if anyone noticed but the interviewer is the one who asked about DC. Letoya didnt bring it up. She answered the question and moved on…ya’ll are some haters to the fullest….to the fullest!!!
It’s the people who are interviewing her that keeps asking her questions about destiny’s child & like she said “there is no beef” between them so people should just let it go & move on, she’s talentled just like the rest of the girls & I can’t wait to hear more about her upcoming projects
I cant wait to new material come out Letoya makes solid Musick forreal
I’ve seriously love Letoya. Her last album “Lady Love” was an amazing R&B album and I wouldn’t have a problem if she released something like that again but uptempo’s are good too. I just hope she doesn’t try to go too mainstream.
Like others have said the INTERVIEWER asked, besides it was a significant event in her life. Interviewers dont ask you what you ate for dinner on Tuesday. Anyway good luck to her, I’m glad she and LaTavia are getting back on their feet and finding their own success. What happened in the past was rough but luckily they’ve come through to the other side.
i think they only talk about it because people ask about it
Everybody wants them to say something bad about beyonce because she is the most successful. They brought it on themselves they could have gotten there parents involved instead of letting mathew over work them and the fire them.
She seems very mature. The responses she gives when talking about DC aren’t malicious, or anything. U can tell it’s coming from a warm place and that she’s genuinely happy for Bey and Kelly. Gotta respect that.
Yeah Lady Love in the House
OMG all the interviewer asked her was if she still kept in touch and she answered the question DAMN! Ya’ll can get off her case cause she’s clearly let the DC drama go long time ago. Don’t put her in the same category as Latavia. Toya’s been successful in her own right.
It’s obvious that she has moved on from Destiny’s Child but it seems to always come up in interviews with all the members. Including Beyonce. Letoya is so real. I love how professional she is and she is right, ppl are always trying to create beef between the artists. I just watched the Preacher’s Daughter movie and I really think she should pursue acting rather than singing. She has a nice voice but I think she will excel with a career in aciting.
I really like LeToya alot she has great soul depth and integrity. I’m excited about her new album most def buying it just like I did her Lady Love and LeToya albums. She is an inspiration & nobody want to stop her doing her thing and business.
OK I KEEP SEEING PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT HOW SHE IS STILL TALKING ABOUT DESTINY’S CHILD. UMM…IF I’M NOT MISTAKEN SHE IS NOT THE ONE BRINGING UP THE SITUATION. SHE IS ONLY ANSWERING QUESTIONS. DAMN!!!
I DO BELIEVE SHE HAS MOVED ON FROM DC… DOING HER OWN THING
You guys keep saying they should stop talking about Destinys Child……they are only responding to what the interviewer asks…..so you guys need to accept that they are all tied to Destinys Child forever…..it will never stop so get used to it

OHIO BUCKTRESS
You guys said it all
@LeToyaLuckett i applaud her. CLASSY & FUN
Letoya rarely mentionned DC unless asked, people, media are the ones who make the fuss. Looking fwd to her new venture
BEAUTIFUL WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND STOP HATING ON BEYONCe!!!!!!!!!
BABY WRONG TIME AND WRONG PLACE!!!!
MATTER OF FACT KEEP PUTTING YOUR NAME IN HER MOUTH!!!! THANKS THATS WHY SHES KING!!!!!!!!!!
it’s been years and the stupid DC3 fans are STILL bitter.
1 – Toya didn’t bring up anything about DC
2 – Kelly cut the umbilical cord? HAHAHA YEAH RIGHT
3 – the biggest selling album of Destiny’s Child is The Writings On The Wall. LeToya AND LaTavia both are part of that.
4 – Beyoncé herself just acknowledged LeToya this year so… this hating you people spread isn’t even validated by King B –> TO THE LEFT
