The latest and greatest (term used loosely) treat unlocked by fans of Barbadian beauty Rihanna is the visual for the Calvin Harris produced ‘We Found Love’. The first cut lifted from her soon to be released ‘Talk That Talk’, the Melina directed video finds the singer in northern Ireland singing about a hopeless place from a familiar place – fields, meadows, and the like.

While the song may sound like something from a video game soundtrack, the visual does help distract you from its never-ending repetition as it is, in essence, a 4-minute ‘Behind the Music’ special. For, in a flex of her only ‘talents’, once again the role model has lived up to such billing for young girls and the recently mentored on X Factor in ‘We Found Love’ – where she’s found smoking like a chimney, engaging in a host of sexual acts, and the like. Said stint on the talent show as guest “judge” should demonstrate to those talented hopefuls that they too can reach her dizzying heights of vocal status by abusing alcohol, smoking excessively, etc.
On the other hand, being the fair, unbiased site that we are, we must give props where they are due. This is definitely one of Riri’s best visual offerings to date (which says a lot) and she certainly could have chosen to go in a different, less interesting direction – like, umm…her other videos. Instead, she chose drugs, sex, rock n’ roll and the accompanying story of a young couple rebelling against society and naysayers alike while simultaneously self-destructing due to that same rebellion. The true meaning of being ‘dangerously in love’.

For a song that some people call generic, the video actually evokes what the words were saying in the video: like the highs & lows of love (in a hopeless place). On a purely technical level, I think the shots gave it a feel of “hopeless love” – and that’s why I like it because it’s not just random shots of scenes for shock value (who could that be? LOL) or just some random dance performance that does not evoke the feeling of the song (now, who could that be?). I loved the grittiness in some scenes, unlike the other ultra airbrushed videos by some other people.
The song may not be that good, but like what @slay said, I totally did not expect this also. I was expecting some video where she just dances randomly in a field or in a club. In a way, the video deserved a better song.

It was a dope video, probably her best since ‘Russian Roulette’. Didn’t expect this from the behind the scenes footage at all. It was a plesant suprise.
Its crazy though cause the song is such a happy pop song but the video was really dark and almost distubring. She definitely likes taking risk which I can appreciate and definitely respect. I do think the video is gonna be considered ‘controversial’ but I think that’s what she was going for. Controversy seems to pay off and help push her singles.

I normally dont comment on stuff on blogs, but this video was totally unexpected. The rawness and edginess was very creative. It’s good to see a video about love, but love that comes out of/lives out of a negative place. Love like this is real life and happens to several people. She’s not trying to make people consume drugs, alcohol and steal, she’s saying that LOVE can be as addicted as a drug and you do everything when you’re in love, but at the end she realised the way of life she was having and she left him.

This video is art. It got a visceral reaction from ALL OF YOU and that is what art is suppose to do. It’s an extreme artistic endeavor and it took honesty from her to put what is obviously a part of her life on the screen.

The video is truly Breathtaking and her chemistry with Dudley O’Shaughnessy is f****** electric. I love how the song is up-beat and cherry yet the video is dark and ominous, showing the more shadier side of love and its complexities. It’s a montage of a sweet, s***, twisted relationship and I found it to be just incredible, it’s so raw and realistic. Loved the Neo Grunge, Punk fashion as well.

Really annoying to see how PRESSED ppl are over chris brown that they can’t just enjoy the video. Ppl on these comments that hatin on it and sayin it sucked obviously let the concept go over and beyond their heads. The drugs represent how love itself can be self destructive because love, like drugs, are very deep and delicate to you physically and emotionally. And love gets you high. Like how rihanna is feeling around the dude in the video. Everyone on necole bitchie saying this video was a MASTERPIECE. No, the video sucks because it does! It doesn’t mean that everyon hates Rihanna (I’m not a fan)! I could careless what ppl on another site have to say about this video. I don’t see anything epic or orginal about it. Since you want to mention different sites, let me direct you to an article posted on MTV from an Irish author. She basiclly took each scene and showed that Rihanna cut and pasted every scene from aother artists videos. She stole from Jay n’ Kanye, Joe Jonas on down the line. No, I don’t like the video and I don’t hate Rihanna.
So what the song and video sells. That is based upon the competent marketing team over at Def Jam Records not her. Her marketing team will always use her fight with Chris Brown as long as the foolish public buys it. I can’t say I blame them. Look at 9/11 and how effective the Bush Administration was at manipulating the public with situation. This is the same concept, you use what you got to sell your idea/songs/what have you.

@ITSBREEZYBITCH, I am a huge CB fan and I loved this video. Didn’t upset me and I think it doesn’t bother CB at all. He actually favorited this song a couple weeks ago and then erased it. I think the people who have a problem with this video is because they truely don’t like Rihanna. This video isn’t hurting CB, it actually show them crazy in love like a drug and then they fall apart. True life experiences. This is a great video.
