Billed as the headliner of last night’s ‘Michael Jackson Forever’ tribute show, Christina Aguilera instead caught headlines for her ill-fitting ensemble (which saw her look more Adele than herself).
Still, being the fair and unbias site we are, our focus lay on the music. How did Christina fair with her performances of ‘Dirty Diana’ and ‘Smile’? See (and hear for yourself) after the jump…
Dirty Diana
Smile
A generally solid vocal showing.
However, it was somewhat disheartening to still hear the ever-present stressing and straining in her technique. Let’s hope reports of her enlisting prove both true and fruitful – as parts of this (as superior as it was to other performances) still had me wincing).
On a more serious note, and I say this with immense delicacy, it’s quite clear Ms. Aguilera needs to shed a few pounds. By no means do we mean this in a superficial sense. However, there’s no point ignoring the elephant in the room (no pun intended); her performance ability (something almost as renown as her voice) has been lacking ever since she emerged with her more “rounded” shape. Indeed, post ‘Bionic’ flopping, the divorce, and the ‘Burlesque’ era, she’s been noticeably less agile. Whatever the issue, here’s hoping she tends to it before the release of her next studio album.
In any case, decent tribute.
