Drake’s ‘Take Care’ Debuts At #1

Published: Wednesday 23rd Nov 2011 by David

All hail King Drake!

For, anyone who ever doubted how his latest album ‘Take Care’ would fare upon its release may find themselves mincing their words today.

You guessed it.

As of today, the album is #1 on the Billboard 200.

631,000 units.

Netting the third-largest sales week of 2011 for a fully priced album (since Amazon were selling  copies of Lady GaGa‘s ‘Born This Way‘ for $0.99), the LP has exceed the first week figure scored by its predecessor ‘Thank Me Later‘ ,which debuted with 447,000 units sold.

Unlikely to hold the #1 position for a second week- with Michael Buble‘ and Adele both snapping at his heels with their respective projects, the album is yet to spawn a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and but  that is expected to change now its lead number of the same name has debuted at #4 on the chart this week.

What a tangled web the music industry weaves.

While this week will see Rihanna fail at scoring a #1 album with ‘Talk That Talk‘, even with 5 #1 singles released in the last year, the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj find themselves doing the opposite.

Charting poorly on the singles front but  stifling the competition when it comes to selling LP’s.

Ironic, as both Rappers were  snubbed by the singer at one time or another in the earlier days of their careers.

The only question we have to ask is this:

Who’s laughing now?”
