In what will come as a shocking blow to many a Katy Perry fan familiar with her long running creative relationship with producer Dr.Luke, today saw news that will change the course of her career. Forever.
As of 2012,the pair are no longer permitted by law to work with each other.

According to Sony Music‘s CEO Doug Morris , Dr. Luke – born Lukasz Gottwald- has signed an exclusive five year contract with the label.
This contract has provided Gottwald the power to launch his own label Kemosabe Records, which is now Sony’s fourth division label, after RCA, Columbia and Epic.
Good news for Luke but bad news for Katy.
For, one of them terms in this contract states that Sony has exclusivity to any of the producer’s production services.
This means that he will no longer be able to create music for non Sony acts, which of course includes Perry( Capitol) and Jessie J (Universal Republic).
What a shame.
Especially as Luke is responsible for the majority if not all of the hits scored by the acts he works with.
The producer of ‘California Gurls‘ , ‘E.T‘, ‘The One That Got Away‘, ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘I Kissed A Girl‘, he is undeniably the mastermind behind the formula that has worked time and time again for Katy.
Looks like the Billboard charts are going to get a lot more interesting.
Because, with Luke now signing his own acts to his very own label, Perry and Jessie will soon find themselves competing with girls armed with the exact same sound that brought them the notoriety they are enjoying today.

it’s undeniable the importance of dr luke in Katy perry career but it’s also true that none of her song have a so unique style that other producer can’t create , it’s simple pop with some rock influence i think that others producer can do the same….even beacuse i imagine katy carrer could have some Trouble….

By the time Dr. Luke gets his acts produced and out on the market, another producer and sound may be hot. This may not be bad for Katy Perry at all.

1)They haven’t cut ties.Yes, the contract is official and it’s 99% confirmed to be true, but Katy’s label can definetely do something to keep Katy and Dr Luke together ($$$).MANY artists do that and it’s not just about producers.Feautured acts on songs can be from a different label than the main artist too.Besides, every contract has exceptions and Dr Luke is creating HIS own label, so he has more control.
2)How do you know that Katy isn’t joining him.Her label is falling apart too and she will either go to another Universal-based label or move away from the brand altogether.Why not join her “mentor”?
3)If it’s true, it could be a good thing for her.Dr Luke is not far from washed out and if she made an album full of re-creations of ‘California Gurls’ then she would get a hit, but would she get longetivity??She might spice things up a little bit.Formulas don’t last
4)Jessie J is not achieving any notoriety in the US and Dr Luke hasn’t affected her career that much.
5)So, Sony messed up J Records and Jive but they give Dr Luke his own label??HELL NO!
Oh and 6)Why is this a big deal?Aren’t there 100 producers out there that can produce the kind of music that Dr Luke produces??
Dr. Luke still has Ke$ha and Britney Spears so he aint worried.
well we cant judge until her next album. fireworks isnt a song he produced. he may have made a ton of hits for her, but that is like how many producers can make great songs, but its up to the fans and music buyers to like the song, buy it, request it etc. anyone can sing dr luke’s song, not everyone can make them a hit. but it would be nice to see who will be getting those songs now and who will be making katy’s music. but katy does co write, so he is just 50 of the creator of the songs.

IMO this could actually be a good thing. People get bored if artists continue to make the same type of music and having a new producer could mean a whole new sound for Katy.

Katy is now moving to Universal since they bought Emi! Universal already has a deal in place with Dr. Luke that supersedes the Sony Deal! So Katy will be working with Luke and his team of writers and producers! Also, Luke can write on anyone’s cd he just can’t lend his name as producer! So basically nothing has changed! This is a non story! And basically the team that engineered her success at the label also stays in tact and she is reunited with her A&R guy, who left to go to Universal! Katy will be fine!

lmao!!! um people do realize that all the songs Dr.Luke has produced for Katy have all be co-produced by Benny Blanco, Max Martin, or Greg Wells. I dont think this will effect her career at all. Dr.Luke shares his creations with his partners in crime, for all we know Max Martin could be the genius behind her songs. And Jessie J may be big in the U.K but she is irrelevant here in the U.S.
