Yes, just one day after Ulster Cancer Foundation labelled the ‘Loud‘ performer irresponsible for glamorizing smoking in the video, the Rape Crisis Centre has aired out some ‘less than polite’ feelings on the clip and its leading lady.

On the visual, the Centre concluded:
The video is a disgrace.
It sends the message that Rihanna is an object to be possessed by men, which is disturbingly what we see in real violence cases.

It would seem that very much like the response to her video for ‘Man Down‘, Ms. Fenty has come under fire for daring to delve into uncomfortable territory.
While some portions of the clip were indeed difficult to watch, especially the part which saw her love interest mark the word ‘Mine’ on her rear, is it really up to Ms. Fenty’s job to remind girls that being objectified and abused is never a part of a truly loving relationship?

The title “We found Love in a Hopeless Place” says it all. This is by far Rihanna’ s best video yet and I say it is mild compared to most movies plastered all over the TV produced by Hollywood and nobody is checking them. I also understand that she is perceived as a role model; but Rihanna is still very young and should be allowed room to grow. I believe the video talks about an unhealthy love between two individuals and the video compares that love to drug use. I think that parents should help their children with the interpatation of this video, say what is love and hopefully not “Find Love in a Hopeless Place”; but if you do have sense enough to leave.

It’s so important because it’s so real. Whether the video has been made before is irrelevant, because it has, common subject. The good of Rihanna bringing it in 2011 is to refresh the idea and bring it to the eyes of the young who are about to delve in the age group this happens most frequently. It’s real, this kid of relationship really happens, especially in teenagers and young adults, and many may be unaware of how toxic it is. And maybe if Rihanna, the hardcore party girl, can say that this is bad news and she’s been here then maybe the young who inevitably look up to her will watch and learn. Instead of live and learn…the hard way. Because time is the worst teacher.

Ok you know what….people are gonna have opinions and I actually look up to Rihanna as an artist and from what i see from her interviews etc. For some reason it’s ok for Lady Gaga to make a statement through disturbing images, hardly any clothes and religion etc but if Rihanna does anything to that sort of level she is a disgrace….Do you know what I think….I think people that can say some thing like that are Judgmental, maybe you should watch her interviews to see where she is coming from….If you don’t like the video then don’t f*****g watch it, simple as, but i think you will find that people that understand the content of the video will find it inspiring. In my opinion it’s her best video. She’s doing what she wants and she doesn’t need Ulster Cancer Foundation or R*** Crisis Centres permission…. Rihanna isn’t glorifying anything…do a bit more research on her before judging.
Concentrate on judging her music not her when she actually hasn’t done anything wrong.

Yep, but we all knew it was coming. The media loves to build ppl up to have the pleasure of tearing them down (see Michael Jackson, Tigar Woods, Chris Brown etc). The fall from grace is always public, excoriating, and most of the time LONG LASTING when it comes to
black ppl. As you so rightfully stated, the Lindsay Lohans, Paris Hiltons, Kim Kardashian’s & Charlie Sheen’s of the world will always be just fine irrespective of the crimes they commit and the number of times they commit them (see Charlie Sheen’s 20 year history of beating women). Rihanna has been built up very high. She has now racked up the most #1s in pop music history or something along that line. She is now poised for a huge fall from grace! Just wait and see! The scheme never changes and it will soon be her turn to tumble!

I think that that was definitely an aspect of the video, but I don’t think she included the objectification and the mistreatment of her character in the video to send a positive message to people about those types of relationship’s. I thought that the video was about a relationship that was exciting and fun, but turned sour… so sour that she had to get out (and she did). Based on that alone it seems that her goal was not to glamorize the relationship she was in, but instead to show that once it gets ugly, you need to get out. Another thing, (and this is just my interpretation of it, i’m sure it can be interpreted in a number of different ways) the imagery of the projector playing videos on the wall were also a sign that she wasn’t glamorizing the relationship/objectification/etc. They started off as clouds, flowers, etc, very peaceful beautiful imagery, but turned into collapsing buildings and burning houses when the relationship got ugly. I have to disagree with them on this.
