Last week saw Pop Royal Rihanna and Neo-Soul upstart Rebecca Ferguson take to the X Factor UK stage to perform their respective singles, ‘We Found Love‘ and ‘Nothing’s Real But Love‘ and to say the performances were polar opposites would be an understatement.
For, while one allowed her voice and the music to do the talking the other opted for pre-recorded vocals and aimless choreography.
Now Ferguson has spoken out on what she thinks of her soon to be chart rival and her creative cause.
Her comments below…
She told Yahoo:
I wouldn’t let my daughter watch her. As a woman, I want to teach my daughter that a man should love you for who you are.
They should love you for you as a person, not for how you dress — and you don’t have to be a sexual thing to a man.
Adding:
She can say ‘I’ve got no kids,’ but if you want that lifestyle and you want that money, ultimately you are influencing generations and you have to remember that. They will copy you. Popstars should think of their audience.
Rebecca- you’re being really unfair.
How dare you criticize Rihanna for doing the only thing she knows how to.
With vocal skills slimmer than Kim Kardashian‘s chances of finding true love and rhythm as mythical as Naomi Campbell‘s hairline, ‘sex appeal’ is really the only thing Ms. ‘Umbrella’ has got going for her.
In case you didn’t get the memo- let us be the ones to tell you that when it comes to ‘influencing her fans to do better’- both Fenty and her team are just not interested.
Yes, though it should be the mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters who influence the younger generation, there is no denying the power Pop stars like Rihanna have when it comes to shaping certain ideas held by their fan bases.
As the age old saying goes, beauty fades but talent is timeless.
Thus, anyone critical of Rebecca’s comments may have to mince their words when her debut album ‘Heaven‘ hits stores December 5th.
