She’s baaack! Or…at least we think.
‘Good Good’ singer Ashanti has been enticing faithful fans of followers of the goodies collected for her next anticipated LP. Now, it looks like fans will be getting their first taste of the former ‘Murder Inc’ princess’s offerings. Fronted on her own imprint Written Entertainment, ‘The Woman You Love’, featuring supersonic rapper Busta Rhymes , is the latest unveiled from the Grammy winner who has seen most of the past weeks touring Asia with famed songwriter David Foster.
Definitely set to to get tongues wagging, is Miss Douglas headed for a hit? You decide after the jump:
Thanks RapDose/In Flex We Trust!
Parts of this song sound like something The Chipettes passed on for one of their albums while other parts sound like scraps from the ‘Chapter II’ era. The song shows promise, but its datedness and Ashanti’s (at-time) thin vocals certainly do not do it any favors. Busta may very well have been this song’s saving grace.
Either way, hopefully this is merely a taste (and not fully representative) of what Miss Douglas is delivering. For, while ‘The Declaration’ didn’t make much of a statement on the charts, it was certainly fitting in billing as it truly was a testament to the singer’s vocal and artistic growth. But this, possibly a grower and not a shower, might win a few spins on 106 & Park, but Billboard needs more of a banger if the ‘Rock Wit U’ beauty is looking for a catalyst to re-jumpstart her once sailing career.
