Better late than never, ay? Pop powerhouse Jessie J finally unwrapped the video for her current Stateside single ‘Domino’ today.
A Dr Luke cut from the re-package of her debut set ‘Who You Are’, the colourful cut is paired with an equally vibrant visual. Check it out after the jump…
Meh.
Though solid (in that it does a good job of capturing the song’s essence), it’s the song itself that is the actual problem here.
Indeed, given the length and breadth of Jessie’s talent, this all kinda comes across as ‘hit chasing’. Had the track – which sounds like it was produced for Katy Perry or Ke$ha – actually been given to one of those ladies, yours truly would likely embrace it more. Yet, Jessie’s talent kinda comes across wasted on this.
Still, it must be noted that I’ve long belonged to the sect of folk who prefer Ms. J’s grittier efforts, such as ‘Do It Like A Dude’, ‘Who You Are’, and where “Pop-ier” ‘L.O.V.E’. For yours truly, that is where her lane is.
That said, (and we can’t say the following enough) the industry is little more than a game which has to played a certain way to ensure success. Something, given the material Jessie’s pushing the hardest (see: ‘Price Tag’, and now this), we’re sure she knows all too well.
