With more cuts and switcheroos than Destiny’s Child, the X Factor panel has seen two judges and one host axed from its regular lineup just this week. Such dismissals instantly ushered in whispers of who would replace female judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. And, while names like Nicki Minaj and Kelly Rowland were instantly tossed around, no name has had the rumor mill buzzing more than Mariah Carey.
Unlike Minaj and Rowland, the ‘Hero’ hitmaker was rumored to be part of the original cast of the show during its first American season as show creator, Simon Cowell, repeatedly made public pleas for the songstress to guest his show. But, as the buzz reaches a feverish pitch, Mr. Mariah Carey husband Nick Cannon has stepped in to slam all reports that the singer will be joining the X Factor crew.
Citing her legendary status as cause she would be uninterested, read more from Cannon after the jump:
Via EW:
“Like Nicole Scherzinger, my wife is not a fan of judging people. Nicole actually did say that she is used to performing, and the judging thing is not really natural for her. I really think that a lot of entertainers feel that way and I think these shows are really good shows, but when you get someone of status, or just big-time, career-wise, to do these shows, I personally think it’s a step down.”
“Why would would my wife want to be on a show like that? For somebody who has a legendary career, I don’t know why they would do that.”

Interestingly, some may argue that being a judge on such a ratings winner would guarantee chart success. However, J.Lo (besides the mega hit that was ‘On the Floor’), Abdul, Scherzinger, and other judges on the show who tried to use its publicity to their own advantage did not see long term (if any) results. Could Nick be onto something by shielding Mariah from taking the same road?
Do you think Mariah Carey is ‘too legendary’ for X Factor?
Your thoughts?
