‘The Voice’ Hits Ratings High-Note Post-Super Bowl

As reported, season 2 of ‘The Voice’ kicked off to its highest ratings yet this Sunday, after being launched alongside Super Bowl XLVI.

And yet it’s this strategic piggy-banking which left many analysts cautious about hailing the show’s heightened success. At least until the ratings of last night’s “regular-slot” episode rolled in.

According to TV By The Numbers, the NBC show averaged 17.7 million viewers last night – markedly higher than its 5.1 million debut last season and its series average of 12 million.

Perhaps most interesting, though, is that the number puts the show in direct competition with American Idol, the season average of which is 20 million – and slipping.

It also sees the talent search blaze past Simon Cowell‘s super-hyped X Factor USA and its 12 million episode average.

The Voice is clearly hitting the right notes with viewers. All the show needs to ensure now is that it generates a successful winner. For last year’s champ Javier Colon could only manage a #134 peak on the Billboard 200.  Time will tell if the show can deliver on that front.

Pending then, Christina, Cee-Lo, and co have plenty to celebrate…
