Lana Del Rey Readies ‘New Album’

Published: Thursday 8th Mar 2012 by David

This time last year, the name Lana Del Rey meant absolutely nothing to the charts and debate she has gone on to dominate.

Rising to ‘mainstream’ fame in the latter part of 2011, this year saw the release of her second studio album, ‘Born To Die‘, spawning the smash hit singles ‘Video Games‘ and ‘Born To Die‘.

Now, following the LP’s success, Ms. Rey is reportedly readying the release of it’s ‘follow up’, by way of Interscope and Polydor Records.

Details below…

In 2010- before signing to Jimmy Iovine‘s Interscope- Rey released her debut LP ‘Lana Del Rey AKA Lizzy Grant‘ independently, in partnership with ‘Vanilla Sky‘ maestro David Kahn.

However, after being available for online purhcase, it was pulled by Rey’s father Robert Grant, who bought the rights to the LP from her then label ‘5 Points‘. This, according to Kahn, was because:

She wanted to be Lana Del Rey and didn’t want to be Lizzy Grant. That was her family name, and she’s very dramatic. She wiped [out] this other person. I think she actually thinks that she’s that other person, and she probably is.

So that was the decision that she made, that she didn’t want traces of that whole person around, as far as I can tell.

Now it seems, she’s had a change of heart.

For, in an interview with BBC News, the singer revealed that she may re-release the project in the summer, explaining:

People act like it’s so shrouded in mystery, the ‘forgotten terrible album’.

But if you look on YouTube, all 13 tracks are available with millions of views, so it’s not like no-one’s heard them.We were all proud of it. It’s pretty good.I’m re-releasing it, maybe in late summer.
