New Song: Calvin Harris ft. Ne-Yo – ‘Let’s Go’

Published: Sunday 4th Mar 2012 by Rashad

Two of the craftsmen behind some of Barbadian beauty Rihanna‘s biggest hits have joined forces to try their luck at doing the same sans-Riri.  ‘We Found Love’ producer Calvin Harris has found an enlistee in singer/songwriter Ne-Yo for ‘Let’s Go’ – the first single off the Brit’s yet titled third album (due later this year).    Like Harris, Ne-Yo’s next project is also due later this year.

And, while Ne-Yo hasn’t found much success on the solo tip when his latest ‘Libra Scale’ failed to meet expectations, the singer’s recent contributions as ‘assistant’ have led many-a-rapper to the top of the charts.

Certainly set to get you moving in the clubs, is ‘Go’ the route Ne-Yo/Harris need to go for a hit?  You tell us below:

Very reminiscent of ‘We Found Love’ in the sped up chorus, but also similar to Ne-Yo’s ‘Closer’.   In such, the crooner’s vocals – as this type of beat is familiar territory – compliments effortlessly.  Just in time for spring, this jam will certainly get the crowds moving all the way through the summer.

The only unfortunate aspect of this is that when radio is already flooded with so many generic dance tracks it’s (sometimes) hard to differentiate the good from the bad.  Here’s hoping this song, accompanied with a hot video, will aid with listeners making the distinction.

everyone is now doing this urghh

  2. NE-YO*STAN March 4, 2012

I’ll be honest… “Closer” (was ahead of its time and) had much more substance than this. Ne-Yo could have put more into the lyrics. It’s okay, though. I’ll still rock to it on the way to work.

  3. Girrrl March 4, 2012

    The Rihanna obsession is just…

  4. Boopi March 4, 2012

Sigh…I will be SOOOOOOOOO happy when this dance music trend ends. Ne-Yo you are so much better than this. R&B is dying and that is what you do best. I remember when you said you were getting bored with r&b, but that was a long time ago. the genre needs you. On Libra Scale IMO your best songs were your r&b songs which were One in a Million, and Genuine Only. Please get back to making classic music instead of this flash in the pan, just good for now songs.

  7. SBC19 March 4, 2012

I have no respect for black acts who make dance music. That s*** is for white folks.

  8. JP March 4, 2012

Look…lets stop cornering Black artists and entertainers into the R&B genre. It’s one of the weakest financially performing genres in music. You don’t see White artists being confined to a particular genre by their audience.

When consumers speak with their wallets then we’ll see R&B truly re-emerge. Right now, R&B is a dying genre so why is it Black artists have to commit to it? It’s not really fair.

  9. Theman March 5, 2012

Some black artists are more than r&b. Dance music isn’t a white genre. Thats pretty ignorant. Si is black folks dancing a white thing to.

  10. Songscribe March 5, 2012

Poor neyo!!!, everyone is following riri’s trend,,, from swag to everyone she associate with-The Kuinn!!!, BUT i dont see no one making a hit lyk WFL wit Harris. Anywho these other artists are collecting Riri’s leftovers.LMAO!!!
SN: i watched Bey’s VMA perf yesterday, i see why they call her the King. She an excellent performer. Keep up the good work.

I only f**** with “So Sick”/”S*** Love”/”Do You” Ne-Yo. He can keep this silly, flaky and cheesy nonsense right there.

On a side note: he better get his head in check and quit with all this dance music he’s doing as of late. One of the worse things you can do as an artist is alienate your core fan base in order to follow a fad sound for the sake of appealing to trendy listeners. Once your core fans feel alienated, your house is officially on sand. Those trendy dance music fans who might arbitrary snap up this song because it matches what else they might be listening to at the moment aren’t real fans and won’t be there to support his career in the long run. And in the meantime, his core fan base (who would have stuck with him through thick and thin) is now insulted and deliberately washing their hands of him.

Both him and Usher better recognize that soon and quit being so desperate to appeal to this fickle pop demographic, else I’m predicting both of their careers will be over in 5 years.

I Love dance Music and i’m Pick-y when it comes to R&B Music.

but is it a crime for a black artist to cross-over ?! in the mind of most Black people , i think it is !!

Do U Guys , i like them both !! i NEEEEEEEEEEEED more of that !! and R&B whiners should actually Go , Buy and REALLY and FINANCIALLY support their R&B artists cuz those artists are Struggling cuz their albums Flop Mainly Beacue those R&B fans only afford to talk , they don’t buy s*** !! hence Beyonce’s “4” which is a gem when it comes to R&B ” for example” sold only 2 millions WW while being her greatest album !!

How those artists gonna Live if U talkers don’t buy their Pure- R&B albums By 100% Black artists ?! , they simply do what is commercially trending now and what ppl like , that is ” dance Music” !!!!
Now what ?! Yes i said it !

Black R&B fans don’t buy s*** and let their artists flop , Yeah i said it !! 😯 call me racist please cuz i said so !! 😛

White folks are buying Music !!!! Most Black People Don’t !!

  14. JP March 5, 2012

    @ Pop Royalty,

Exactly. Black people can be so small minded and confining. I think Neyo has crossover potential. He may not have his his stride yet, but there is no reason he should be expected to stick strictly to R&B.

I’m sure he wants to challenge himself and make more coin too. R&B doesn’t sell like it used to…point blank. We’re no longer in the 90s.

  15. sjs March 5, 2012

@JP & POP Royalty its not black people are small minded that is such an ignorant stereotype. It’s just it would be nice if these consumers acknowledged r&b the way they do britney spears. I wish that the music bizz was like how it was in the 90s Where all generes could get shine . To be so Honest r&b music set the to.e for so many POP stars today. If you think britney spears, Justin timberlake, Katy Perry, rhianna, pussycat dolls, kesha, backstreet boys, jlo, nsync, Justin Bieber, black eyed peas, Cassie, diddy, nicki minaj, erick morillo, Tao Cruz, Madonna, David guetta, ,adele, Amy winehouse, duffy, Hilary duff, chef, celine dion, Drake, flo rida, Cheryl Lloyd, benny banassi, shelia e., gwen stefani, and so many others were not influenced or inspired buy r&b talent you are delusional. Secondly, its not just r&b music that has took a $$$$$ loss. Internet piracy is a huge deal that changed the recording industry forever. The one artist that I can truly say made $$$$ for the recording industry they artists use to sell albums is the GOD gifted talent We know as Adele. Her efforts with 21 are compelling and completely r&b and jazz inspired. I remember when I watched an adele interview when she was promoting her single chasing pavements, the 1st thing she said was I was inspired by the lines of r&b great Etta James. So cool it. You type so bold behind a computer but if any r&b star were doing their thing you would be giving praises. I know for a fact if you like britney spears you like r&b. I love all types of music but do not steroetype us black folks cause I love everything Madonna contributed to music. Benny Banassi is a dream hit maker. I love r&b and I love POP but this neyo track is not as creative and inspiring like Calvin Harris and rhianna, or David guetta and Kelly rowland commander. Sorry but sue me for having an opinion instead of judging all black people. Blacks have contributed a lot of success and $$$$$$ to the recording industry. Ask Columbus Short he is the talented African American innovative choreographer who brought Britney Spears hightest grossing world tours to light and great media coverage when it was taped live in las Vegas and Miami Fl the following year

  16. sjs March 5, 2012

@JP & POP Royalty, I feel like certain r&b singers get so much hate for no reason. So because brandy, Monica, & Jennifer Hudson don’t have blue rainbow wigs on, or they are not auto tuning that makes them not versitile or creative. Why can’t us consumers learn to respect all generes of music, and it takes a lot PF guts to make it in the tough recording industry. Give credit when it is due. Learn to see the positive in things before the negative. Again I will repeat its not just r&b that took a hit financially, just because singers reach out for help from the ultra music, techno, house music, or electronica crowd does not guarentee a hit worth millions. Florida has success because he was wise Enough to work with the sweddish sh Avicii. Avicii is talented and his skills with Florida’s appeal got an international hit. When jlo recruited pitbull and did the dance Latin POP hit get on the floor the single did fairly well but het album did not sell a lot. It’s due to the internet as I mentioned. I love kelis’s song acapella and Chris brown benny banassi beautiful people. So again please base your opinions of the millions of blacks you are steroetying with real concrete statistics and facts cause Last time i checked Beyonce still managed to sell an r&b álbum called 4 evento after it leaked worldwide

  17. sjs March 5, 2012

@POP royalty are you even employed with a career in the music industry??? Then you would know that Its polítics. If rhiri has a successful single with We found love, then obviously the record labels with be paying extra close attention to the trend cause they want of piece of the pie too. A lot of music sounds the same nowadays. Music was much more creative and lucrative back then. Last time I read rhiannas talk that talk album has sold 650k to date. Had this album came out in the 90s she would have Went plantinum in a week. Like I said its so easy for you to be a quote on quote racist from your keyboard and desktop, but I guarantee if an r&b great were offering your thirsty starving fame wanna be self a job you would say I love Jennifer Hudson, Mary j. Blige . I’m not one of those black folks who hates POP or techno. Some so.ha are better than others and it has nothing to do with POP is better than r&b. POP was derived from r&b music just cut the nonsense and admit it. Napster, m** downloading, file sharing have hurt the industry as a whole not to mention the recession.

  18. Bey Fan March 5, 2012

    Sounds like everything else….

  19. sjs March 5, 2012

@POOP NOT ROYALTY IS IT A F****** CRIME FOR ME TO SAY THIS SONG IS JUST OKAY, NOT COMPELING. CALVIN HARRIS IS BETTER THAN THIS AND SO IS NEYO. I WILL BE CHECKING FOR CALVIN HARRIS AND KELLY ROWLAND. BUT GOOD LUCK TO NEYO FOR THIS SINGLE IT COULD BE A HIT BUT I JUST THINK IT’S OKAY

  20. sjs March 5, 2012

@BEY FAN. Thank you that is what I’m saying it does not stand out but the song is okay. I was expecting something more epic and creative grime these two

  21. sito March 5, 2012

From these two typo using the cell phone to comment

  22. mobwife March 5, 2012

I’m not trying to hate but this is simply not good! It’s too busy and the music overshadows Ne-Yo’s vocals. This is definitely a DJ driven song! Turn Up The Music & We Found Love are beat driven but the vocals are soild.

  23. SJS March 5, 2012

@MOBWIFE you described it perfectly. No one is hating, the song may need to be remixed or remastered so it can have that quality sound that showcases Neyo’s vocals with Calvin Harris’s production abilities. If the song had more of a cohesive sound and displayed Harris’s signature sound better the song would just straight be better.

  24. JP March 5, 2012

    @ SJS,

When R&B albums start selling like Britney, Adele, Keri Underwood, and Taylor Swift that’s when you’ll see R&B music re-emerge. No one is to blame but consumers. If consumers genuinely wanted more R&B music they would vote with their wallets.

It’s business. For examples of what happens when you don’t change with market conditions, please see Blockbuster, RIM (blackberry), Kodak, Yahoo, AOL as just a short list of examples.

  25. SJS March 5, 2012

@JP that is what I said silly, but you made a comment saying black people are small minded. Get your mind right. And again POP music is not selling like it use to. Nicki minaj only went double platinum worldwide. With the millions of $$$$ that went towards promoting her the label should have seen a diamond plus platinum return on the investment that means 10 million or more naive one. THE POINT IS IN THIS BUSINESS THE INTERNET PIRACY AND RECESSION HAVE A DIRECT CORRELATION WITH BUYERS WALLETS. WHY DO YOU THINK THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, IS TRYING CENSOR THE INTERNET.

Think, also you think Rhianna is selling 100 million plus, they get promotion, but I have a strong feeling that due to Adele’s fabulous R&B efforts we will soon see a rise in the r&b genre. There of course is a huge market for r&b in the UK. Not to mention Jessie J is a soul singer who has seen international success. You just seem like you are picky and only like music that is popular in dance and gay clubs. I like it too but I like other music as well. Admit that 2008 say the decline of music period not just r&b. Stop being a bully and hating on blacks like myself it is so degrading and childish!!!

  26. SJS March 5, 2012

@ALSO ADELE IS R&B YOU FOOL. HER GENRE IS SOUL, R&B, JAZZ. ADELE IS BLESSED

  27. Happy F3et March 5, 2012

    @SJS… Brilliantly Stated.

  28. sjs March 5, 2012

Thank you I know I’m recklessness with all those paragraphs but some people tripping on hear with the black comments!!
Can’t We all just get along maaan !!!!! Lol

  29. JP March 5, 2012

    @ SJS,

Nicki Minaj isn’t really a good representation of anything. She is anything in these streets. And um..I stand by what I said concerning Black people being small minded. Surely, I’m not referring to any and all Black people. My scope is limited to persons commenting on this blog. No Black artist should be trapped in one genre of music. Especially a genre that isn’t performing very well.

You can’t blame an artist for attempting to take advantage of what’s hot. Music is still a business. Why should Black artists be held to such a ridiculous standard?

Beyonce is one of the biggest Black entertainers around. 4 is a mostly R&B album and that’s one of the reasons people claim it under performed. I can appreciate that people want more R&B…but downloading music for free is not going to make that happen.

And traditionally, R&B has always been tied to Black artists. There is nothing ignorant about that.

  30. JP March 5, 2012

    @ SJS,

What evidence do you have to say I only like what’s popular? My favorite music artists are Brandy, Tweet, and TLC.

My top albums Brandy Full Moon, Tweet It’s Me Again, Kelly Clarkson Breakaway, TLC Fanmail, Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill, Dirty Money Last Train to Paris. So what are you saying?

I don’t confine myself and it’s ignorant of you to make assumptions based off of the so little you know about me. That’s small minded.

  31. MsThing485 March 5, 2012

Every genre of music has people downloading it for free. So WTF are you talking about? And Beyonce’s 4 sold the average of what a ‘hit’ album sells these days. The only thing about it that “underperformed” were the singles, but since the whole point of singles is to promote and sell the album they’re from, that ultimately means little since the album still sold to what the industry would consider successful now.

Anyway, I agree with those who say that R&B artists should stay in their lane and reiterate that any artist who alienates their core fan base to appeal to more mainstream taste is playing with fire. Fans of pop and dance music are A LOT more fickle than fans of R&B. Fans of R&B today loved it 10 years ago and will still love it 10 years from now. Fans dance and pop music today were into something else 10 years ago and will be into something else 10 years from now. There’s little everlasting loyalty with pop fans the way there tends to be with R&B, hip-hop, rock and country, because it panders too heavily to flaky suburbanite teenagers with roving interests and who’re more easily manipulated by the corporate machine tells them is hot right now.

Any R&B act who jumps on the dance train will most likely be sorry for doing that in a few years when they have no audience of any genre left after the dance fans morph into something else and the R&B fans wash their hands of them for turning traitor.

  32. sjs March 5, 2012

@JP now you know how it feels to read ignorant comments talking about black people are small minded. I of coarse am black and have invested lots of money onto buying albums from a lot of POP artist, but bottomline is music as a whole sold much more before Napster and other forms of internet piracy so please do not single out blacks or R&B music which has contributed so much to the creativity and success of our POP acts like BSpears and so on. You POOP NOT Royalty get reckless with comments and cant handle when I comment back. You sound silly stereotyping.

  33. sjs March 5, 2012

@jp Next comment you make should be I agree, you know its wrong to generalize but I bet if it was a black hand that was feeding hence your job or career, you would not speak so low of blacks. And not sorry to burst your bubble but the song is basic. It may do well and if so good for Mr. Neyo and Mr. Harris, but I will state my opinion, the song sounds basic. Now Calvin Harris and Rhianna that is a beautiful song that could transformed into a country pop cover, r&b cover, soft rock, hard rock, etc. The lyrics everything about the song is perfecto her voice with his production style, not because the song is dance music. That is what these naive ones need to understand, even if a recording artist is taping into the trendy dance music of 2009-2012 it MUST BE EXECUTED WITH CREATIVITY from start to finish!!!!!

  34. sjs March 5, 2012

@JP is silly and trying to take my words out of context. I am not blaming for everyone hopping on the pop wagon but I am saying the black people are small minded comment is wrong, and that a lot of people who prefer pop instantly say negative things about r&b singers.

  35. sjs March 5, 2012

@JP Adele is not black Joss Stone, Daley Robin Thicke are not black and their music is R&B. You still sound naive and ignorant. Music in general is not selling or performing well why do you think artist like Britney Rhianna tap into merchandising because POP does not sell how it use too dont believe the marketing hype!!!!

  36. Abel V April 30, 2012

Dance music is not a trend lol. Its been around and always be around. Mainstream has just caught on too it. Electronic music is the future no matter how u see it. For you hating on electronic get use to it. Its here to STAY!!!!!!
