Believe it or not, since her visit to the country two years ago, Nicki Minaj has not stepped foot in the UK.
Indeed, while that might spell all kinds of trouble for any act hoping to fare well here, it doesn’t seem to have stopped the ‘Pink Lady‘ from dominating our charts.
For, following its ascent on this week’s UK Top 40, her latest single ‘Starships‘ has exceeded all expectations digitally.
Find out how below…
Without the aid of a video, live performances and the like in the country, ‘Ships’ is currently perched at #3 on Itunes, days after it was revealed she had shot its ‘Final Fantasy‘ inspired clip in Hawaii, last week.
This places the Rapper one step closer to scoring a truly epic record in the coming week.
Because, if the single moves any higher than its current spot at #5 , Minaj will become the highest charting solo Femcee in UK history, surpassing the commercial efforts of Missy Elliott and ‘Boo’ spitter Ms. Dynamite.
If this happens, sales of her sophomore set ‘PF:Roman Reloaded‘ are set to be just as impressive, following the success of her debut LP ‘Pink Friday‘ which has now sold 2 million copies worldwide since its November 2010 release.
It may have taken a decade, but it’s great to see a female Rapper follow in Lauryn and Missy’s footsteps to reach commercial and critical heights.
Because, while Minaj’s sales take nothing away from the legacies of Kim and Foxy, they do prove how far a Femcee can go with a loyal fan base, financial backing and talent, factors a few of the aforementioned clearly lack(ed).
Either way, here’s to Nicki, the Barbz and the continued success of the new project.
