Must Hear: Cleo Sol – ‘Never The Right Time’

Published: Tuesday 8th May 2012 by Sam

Who is Cleo Sol?

It’s a question no doubt on the minds of many reading this. Yet, it’s a question the Londoner provides an emphatic answer to with debut single ‘Never The Right Time’.

British bred, the 22 year old has been a fixture on the London live circuit, drumming up a buzz which carried her into Island Records late last year. There she would ink her first major label deal.

Since then, Sol has been cooking up her hotly anticipated LP, the first taste of which you can hear below…

Yes, yes, and yes!

In an increasingly “globalised” industry, there is mounting pressure to deliver material that appeals to a mass market. And while  many opt for fist-pumping Electro-Pop, Cleo cleverly delivers a brand of Soul-Pop with ‘Never’ that both speaks to an audience both home and beyond. Great track.

LOL Exactly…no shade to U.K. artists on their grind, but most of us are U.S. based. The sound just isn’t appealing.

are u kidding. there is nothing particularly UK sounding about this track. if anything its very US because it obviously borrows from the Rich Harrison who crafted Amerie/Beyonce/ MJB… so stfu with that. i thought people were becoming more open-minded. good for you sam. rep yo set!

Too much production for her voice. She does sound a lot like Nivea and Solange. Same type of soft soprano. It’s not awful but not good either.
