The Voice: Cheryl Cole Rep Says ‘Singer’ Sang Live

Published: Monday 28th May 2012 by David

Despite being one the UK’s premier female acts by way of ‘looks and promo’, Cheryl Cole’s voice-albeit unique- has never been anything to write home about.

Plagued by her inability to prove herself as a vocalist since departing ‘Girls Aloud’, Saturday night saw her wow British viewers with a performance of her new single ‘Call My Name’ on The Voice UK.

A performance, which though saw her stock as a live act soar, has been overshadowed by criticisms that she did not perform the cut with a live vocal- spitting in the face of the show’s premise.

However, her team have hit back with claims she did sing live.

Details below…

According to her publicist, “Cheryl sang live with a backing track” and insisted she do so, despite concerns from the show’s producers that her mic would be need to be auto tuned to mask any flat notes.

This marks the latest ‘lipsynching’ scandal Cole has been forced to face. In 2009, she came under fire for ‘miming’ over a pre-recorded vocal during a performance on ‘X Factor UK’.

This being the show in which where she served as a judge alongside Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and ‘Put The Needle On It’ star Danni Minogue.

Our two cents:

Chances are, like many before her, Cheryl was singing into a dead mic making her own voice inaudible underneath her oh so handy backing track. So, if her team are going to be technical, she was singing live.

We’re just happy we didn’t have to hear it.

Her mic was off that is why Holly used her mic when she was talking to her.

    • Ugh May 28, 2012

yeah it seems so. Somewhere by the 3:48, 3:49 mark she tried to say something but her mic was off…lol

    • Vegas Girl May 28, 2012

      You’re right, good observation.

  2. NT May 28, 2012

Most artist who can’t sing AND dance live , with lil to no flaw sing into dead mic’s so she probably was singing live ; her backing track just over powered her vocals.

    • mobwife May 28, 2012

Oh no, then she was not singing LIVE. Those artists like Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce Knowles, Chris Brown, Usher Raymond, Justine Timberlake & a few others who actual put on a hell-of-a live performance with actual singing and dancing on their part, typically sing LIVE LEAD VOCALS over a backtrack!

If Cheryl Cole’s mic was NOT ON then she indeed with LIP SYNCING. Ppl are confused about the difference, as they tend to believe media bullsh**! Singing LIVE LEAD VOCALS over a backtrack is different from lip syncing where a person MOUTHS (move their lips as though they were singing the song) into a dead mic! We just witnessed this confused media lie during the BBMA in which an oulandish claim was made against 1 artist buut not about the 3 other acts who did the same damn thing! ALL SANG LIVE LEAD VOCALS OVER A BACKTRACK!

Errrr!! I still dislike her 😐 She’s soo talentless!!!!! She can’t dance or sing, Real Talent needs to be noticed, not just a pretty face.

    • ice7 May 28, 2012

thank u for saying this cos i thought i was the only one thinking she can sing nor dance lol x

this performance is so good. she reminds me of PAULA ABDUL !!

  5. Roman May 28, 2012

“We’re just happy we didn’t have to hear it.”

    Lmaooo I died…

But honestly I did hear her sing faintly, there was a nasal tone throughout the performance.

Firstly, I have to say she has a great stage presence and she is cute. I found this performance better than any Katy Perry or Ke$ha’s performances and better than most of Rihanna’s performances. But she can’t sing, her dance is completly stiff and her songs are horrible and generic.
The truth is: we are surrounded by untalented singers. Record labels keep push these basic b****** through our throats! They make models into singers. They give a record deal to these untalented girls because they know they can be easily manipulated, then they give them the best producers and buy them the catchies songs… And that’s it.
The music industry is a joke! It’s all about money. I don’t see most of top singers trying to bring something different to the table. They do the same basic things, singing the most generic and made to radio songs, don’t care about vocals, stage presence, legacy. They spent more time on Twitter than rehearsing.
They can do any trick they want, but I won’t support them. I don’t buy anything performed by a basic b****. I don’t even watch their videos on YouTube because even this makes money for their labels.

Firstly if you Listen to the studio version the beats completely over shadows her But here she sounds diff IMO and the performance is great! The entrance was everything

      • Gilberto May 28, 2012

I stopped reading after “Firstly if you Listen to the studio version…” I don’t listen to s***, my ears aren’t toilet.

    • i’m not throwing shade, but… May 28, 2012

Gilberto you killed me with you last (but truthful) comment. Why isn’t she dispelling the myth instead of her team? They think that we are stupid? The only live thing about her preformance was the fact that she was in the studio. I would like her to flop but people eat up rubbish… including her lame song

  7. the real xoxo May 28, 2012

she never sang live. and even if she did, she sounds like s***.
i cringe at the “she cant dance and sing at the same time” excuse.
she is considered a SINGER not a dancer. people like beyonce, lady gaga etc dont lip sync and dance aswell. its called having talent.

the worst part is, this single will slay the charts because the general public are idiots when it comes to musical taste.

    • StopItLuke AKA ThatBoyLuke May 29, 2012

Agree, only people doing hardcore routines like Janet Jackson or oldschool Britney can play that card, p**** popping and leg thrusting does not warrant miming.

  8. Andre May 28, 2012

cherly cole cant sing full stop>

  9. mobwife May 28, 2012

    WHATEVER PEOPLE …..GET IT CHERYL!

I like the song and she gave a great performance. Ppl need to STFU and enjoy the FACT that someone is putting forth an effort to entertain you. I think its disgusting that all we seem to get in today’s global society (seeing that crap happens everywhere) is this constant tearing down of artists and even celebrities (THERE IS A DIFFEERENCE)! If you don’t like them or their performances then don’t watch. Unless it was simply atrocious then why bother?

  10. skintightjeans May 28, 2012

B**** didn’t sing. I mean if she did, I don’t recall a howling noise coming from her mouth since that what she sounds like when she DOES attempt to sing. Can’t stand this fake h**. She’s only famous because she married a footballer, got malaria, cried, got cheated on and X Factor. And for the record, Beyonce dances and sings live all the time so I don’t want to hear that crap about can’t sing and dance. Artist do it all the time. TRUE artist with talent.

  11. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN!!! May 28, 2012

She did enter a talent show and got picked though, so she must be able to sing.. I dont know.. Shes well fit though.

    • StopItLuke AKA ThatBoyLuke May 29, 2012

Did you see the level of tallent on that show??? The only ones who are good singers in Girls Aloud are Nadine and Nicole, Kimberley is ok but Cheryl and Sarah are BAD.

  12. I.D. May 28, 2012

Yeah, she was singing live. And that’s why after the performance was done and Holly was speaking to her, she couldn’t even answer the questions with HER OWN MIC!!!!! She shoulda had people to switch on her mic after her performance, hahahaha! You know Mimi, Britney and the rest wouldn’t get caught out like that!!!!

  13. A May 28, 2012

Who the hell can think she sung live?

she almost couldnt talk after the performance, so HOW on earth was that life? LOL

it sounded like a studio version, pretty obvious it wasnt life, and less with that kind of moves.

    • Jay May 28, 2012

It is LIVE and not LIFE. And in this case, it is SANG, not SUNG.

      • StopItLuke AKA ThatBoyLuke May 29, 2012

And does that change the facts @A made???

  14. James_9481 May 28, 2012

I’m not even a fan or anything. But when i first watched this i thought she was singing along to a backing track.. like you can hear it lol.

Just the backing track is hella loud.

  15. Jay May 29, 2012

Having followed Cheryl for 10 years and seen her live 8 times, I can assure you she was singing live on the voice. I know the difference.

I’d suggest you shut your failing blog mouths about matters you know the square route of f*** all about.

    • StopItLuke AKA ThatBoyLuke May 29, 2012

Or maybe you’ve just been fooled all along lol

    • skintightjeans May 29, 2012

you’ve been following her for 10 years? Aren’t you embarrassed?? LOL

  16. TheOuyonB May 29, 2012

Definitely lip sync.. Her voice isn’t even reflecting the dancing she is doing. Cant even here any stress on the voice from the movement.. NOT REAL… Good evening Cheryl.

  17. Saetana May 29, 2012

Watch her lips closely, she is lipsynching – badly. Great dancer and godawful singer, for anyone who really wants to offend their ears you should dig out her performance of Parachute on Radio 1 Live Lounge, it was truly f****** awful. She got away with it when she sang with Girls Aloud, being in a group covers a multitude of sins, when she does an acoustic set (not one dubious song) well then I might agree she can sing. I expect pigs to fly first ;o)

    • skintightjeans May 29, 2012

I listened to it on Youtube. That was horrible with a capital H.

  18. StopItLuke AKA ThatBoyLuke May 29, 2012

LOL if anybody believes that they need their ears and eyes tested, Cheryl Cole can’t even manage to sing Owl City’s “Fireflies” decently while sat on a stool.
Kylie Minogue sang OVER a backing track, Cheryl just mimed that s*** as usual.
