UK Album Charts: Justin Bieber Bests Cheryl Cole

Published: Sunday 24th Jun 2012 by Sam

Cementing her status as a local singles artist, Cheryl Cole saw her hopes of nabbing her 3rd #1 album on the Official UK Album Chart thwarted by American heart-throb Justin Bieber.

Details after the jump…

The Girls Aloud star, whose all-out campaign for  her ‘A Million Lights’ album saw the LP deemed a shoo-in for the top spot, had to settle for #2 after the 18 year old’s ‘Believe’ rocketed to the top spot.

While the actual figures sold are set to be revealed shortly, projections place Cole in the 40,000 – 50,000 region – a far cry from the  105,000 opening numbers of 2010’s ‘Messy Little Raindrops’ and the 125,000 of her solo debut  ‘3 Words’ back in 2009.

‘2’ seems to be the magic number for the 28 year old this week, as her current single ‘Call My Name’ slides into the spot after topping the Official Singles Chart (and breaking records) last week. Needless to say, she’ll be taking the good with the (relatively) bad.

She was never going to win. But she’s done well considering who she was up against.

Cheryl cole is much bigger in the uk than bieber , her lead single sold 150k a couple weeks ago , but her and the team don’t know how to promote the material, and when u face someone like bieber who is a marketing genius u have to be ready to do whatever it takes to get that #1 or u will lose .

wow TGJ your really grasping at straws the amount of your fave artists who would wish to settle for a no 2 album and no1 single. Can’t wait to come back and see what you have to say about your new fave Rita Ora when it’s her time, cause we all know she ain’t getting no no 1 album.

A singles artist? Cheryl albums all sell nearly 1 mil in the uk alone so seat please

Thing is Cheryl’s numbers arent shabby at all. There’s less than 3000 units diff btw her and Bieber. I can see her gettin that no1 spot in coming weeks. Its unusual to debut with over 100k in the UK outside the holiday period which was when her prev albums were released

She was competing against Justin Beiber so I’ll give a slap on the wrist for this one.
