It was supposed to be one of the year’s greatest releases- following the epic launch of Lady GaGa‘s ‘Telephone’ outing with Beyonce.
However, despite recording the single and travelling to Brazil to shoot its big budget video, nothing came of Alicia Keys’ duet with the ‘End Of Time‘ singer, despite the frenzy whipped up by Keys in support of her 2010 LP ‘The Element Of Freedom‘.
Now, one year after being quizzed by That Grape Juice on the video’s absence, and two years after it was due for release, Alicia has finally revealed why fans will not be seeing the Melina piece.
Her statement below…
Speaking to Essence Magazine, she confessed:
“Ohhh man! Y’all aren’t going to leave me alone about that! Sometimes with creative things [it] all comes together and it’s (makes perfection kissing noise) and sometimes things almost come together and it’s better to just leave it. So we love that song.
We had a ball shooting the video. It just so happens that the whole thing, for some reason or another, didn’t quite come together so we just decided to leave it. And that’s what happened.”
Though we’re sure this still won’t satisfy many inquiring minds, it’s nice to finally have an official answer.
Of course, we’d be lying if we said the answer made any sense, considering the expense of both hiring Melina, the set, extras and any other costs a Beyonce/Alicia video would incur and more importantly…why RCA would allow Keys to scrap the video when it was bound to push sales of the ‘Element’.
Maybe, with Beyonce likely to ‘return’ in 2013 and Alicia readying the launch of her new album, their respective labels may push for the video’s launch to help both their causes.
If not, here’s to a fresh collabo between the ladies and a video that does see the light of day.
