Since bursting onto the scene in 2008, it’s fair to say Pop quad JLS haven’t quite roused us in the way they have their legion of fans. Indeed, a messy mix of cheesy mozzarella defines most of their chart offerings. A shame given their collective potential on The X Factor.
Yet, that all looks set to change, so we’re told, with the release of their forthcoming album, ‘Evolution’ – the first single from which was announced today.
Full story below…
Produced by Bangladesh (Beyonce’s ‘Diva’, Brandy’s ‘Put It Down’), the track – christened ‘Hottest Girl In The World’ – is described as “a sleek, modern club song and shows a maturity and progression, taking the group out of Pop territory. A seamless transition into grown-up R&B”.
“Grown up R&B” seems to not only be the underpinning of the single, but the backdrop of the entire album. For, Urban hitmakers The Runners, Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, and Midi Mafia, all feature.
‘Hottest Girl In The World’ receives its radio premiere on September 6th and hits iTunes on October 21st. ‘Evolution’ arrives on November 5th.

Interesting stuff on a number of fronts.
Tacky material or otherwise, their countless awards and sell-out tours have earned these funky divas the right to experiment with a “cooler” sound. And with all signs pointing to the song being a “banger”, we’re admittedly…excited. Who’d have thought?!
That said, one has to wonder if their foray into the world of Urban will go down well with their markedly “mainstream” audience. Time will tell…
