It’s every musician-model’s worst nightmare. But oh was the dreaded lip-sync fail a reality for Cheryl Cole tonight.
The 28 year old took centre stage at the UK’s Stand Up To Cancer telethon this evening to perform her chart smash ‘Call My Name’. However, the showing turned into the messiest of melee’s after her backing track “malfunctioned”, forcing the Girls Aloud star to sing…live.
Watch the shocking showing below…
Ouch! We’re not sure what’s worse – the tuneless whispers coming from Cheryl’s mic or the sound of her pride being shattered into pieces. How embarrassing.
It’s a given that Cheryl has a voice as thin as her waist, but one can’t but feel for her – even if a little. For, in her defense, the routine was fairly intense. Hence, the use of a backing track -even with artists whose vocals capabilities dwarf hers-isn’t unusual.
That said, Ms. Cole would have been much better off ditching the routine and proving she can handle the vocal live, even if that meant standing still and just singing. Unfortunately, the fact that that would have sounded like a choir of castrated cats sees any sympathy we may have evaporate. For, whatever the case, singers should be able to sing. Sadly in today’s age this is less a requirement and more an added bonus. Sigh.
