Miguel Gets Grilled On ‘The Breakfast Club’

Published: Tuesday 2nd Oct 2012 by Sam

Today marks the global release of Miguel‘s eagerly awaited sophomore album ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’. So what better way to drum up buzz than a press stop of New York’s #1 radio show, ‘The Breakfast Club’.

With the risqué show viewed by many as a “right of passage”, the singer’s interview with Charlamagne and co did not disappoint.

Watch below as Miguel talks “those rumors”, collaborating with Alicia Keys, the state of R&B, and more.

Kudos to Miguel for holding his own. Talented and thick-skinned, he stays winning.

Charlamagne knows how to take a little too far, but Miguel held his own.

Keep doing RnB Miguel.even though it ain’t popular like it was,i believe this genre is poised for a huge comeback next year, take my word 4 it…Dance music will die a terrible death, just like disco back in the day

He Held his own. This is why i love miguel, i can identify myself with him as a person and also his music. People are so quick to jump and pull the gay card when someone try to be an individual or do opposite to the norm. Sexuality is who you are attracted to NOT what the you wear, stuff you like etc etc. I love his music keep the good work up Miggy. Love Nvi

    HMMMMM…….

This interview really disappointed me, on Miguel’s part.

Was he actually agreeing with Charlamagne and co. and stating that the way he dressed was in fact “Gay”???????

He professes in every radio and-or magazine interview that he AND his fashion sense “different”, “futuristic”, “flamboyancy meets gangster” (see his rolling stone interview Aug 2012 – HE SAID THOSE EXACT WORDS) and now, just because he is on the breakfast show and talking to Charlamagne, he is denying that and calling his “past (and present) persona” WEIRD AND FUNNY?

    WTF MIGUEL?

You are who you are and you are “DIFFERENT”… Why did you feel pressured into agreeing with those ignorant interviewers that you were something or someone who is “CAMP” and “GAY”.

    Whatever man…

Ya’ll – There is a reason Miguel dressed, as Angela put it, “THUGGISH” that morning. He OUTRIGHT knew that they were gonna awk him the sexuality questions so he dressed a way that he presumed would detract that particular attention.

And there is a reason why he DODGED “certain” questions and gave long-winded answers. HE WAS PRESSURED AND SCARED AND WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DESPITE WHAT HE SAID. I am not saying he IS gay but there was something very “Hmmm” happening there.

I dont think he held his own, HONESTLY, at all in a sense but who knows…

STILL LOVE THE GUY THOUGH. Stay true and talented!!!

      OMG. YAAAAAAAAAAAS.

      I ABSOLUTELY agree.

I just think he was scared and was lying to himselr just to please “THA GOD” and the two other fools.

I dont think he is gay but who rly knows? He is a flamboyant character and he shouldnt have to act a certain way to prove to others that he is who he isnt.

Anywho… HE STILL S*** AND TALENTED!

The m********** who is using I’m not throwing shade, but and isn’t that person needs to stop! I know the user of that name and i know its not them. Yes you above!

      100& CO-SIGN!

Unfortunately the meia has so much CONTROL over artists that they are not free to express their thoughts without being ridiculed! Notice how EVERYONE & THEIR MOTHER are forced to address and favorably agree with Frank Ocean and his decision to “come out” of the closet 2 wks before the release of his CD!

I like his strategy with putting this album out. People really do prefer music in smaller doses just because it’s so easy to get nowadays. I only listened to “Adorn” and decided that I would wait until the full length was put out today. AWESOME ALBUM!!! In terms of the interview, I agree with the above comments. I feel like he is intimidated by harder dudes so he was just agreeing with everything they were saying. When he agreed that the way he used to dress was “GAY” I started laughing because when I looked at his album booklet for his new album I immediately thought that he looks even more flamboyant now than he used to look. All in all though, he’s well spoken and made some good points on the current climate of R&B music.

  9. Sarah Says October 2, 2012

The boy did good. Some people go on the show and are sweating, but he was composed and conducted himself well. Good album

  10. TBT October 2, 2012

Ugh. Did they HAVE to ask him about Frank Ocean? And of course he had to give a stock answer.

  11. iamdiego October 2, 2012

    the smile tho lol 🙂

  12. mobwife: TeamBreezy Dreamin’ October 2, 2012

F*ck Charlamagne! “Talented and thick-skinned” screw that! Why does he or any other artist have to endure such bullsh** just to promote their CD or Singles!

I really like Adron! Good luck……..

  13. mobwife: TeamBreezy Dreamin’ October 2, 2012

Wait…..what? “Lazy R&B” stop it……stop feeding the BS lie about R&B music and R&B artists!!

WHO GIVES F*CK ABOUT FRANK OCEAN? Why does everyone have to speak about Ocean and his sexuality? 0_o I’m glad Migeul said the timing of Frank’s so called revelation was SUSPECT AS HELL! Tell the truth and shame the devil!!

I loved the interview. I’m a fan of Miguel’s music and have watched several of his recent interviews. He was being himself the entire time. He was a good sport with the jokes they were throwing out, and his explanation for his former image made perfect sense. He has found himself and thus his image is much better. Sometimes it takes an artist a while to hone their craft (image included). He’s still relatively new to the game.

My problem lies with the gays who want him to act like some flamboyant queen just because he was a little eccentric when he first debuted. He is still eccentric. I don’t see anything “thuggish” about his look during the interview. He had on a hooded bicker jacket. It was in the morning, Im sure his hair wasn’t together, it would’ve been to much to have that fancy stage hairstyle out for a simple morning show. You queens need to lay off.

  15. lola October 2, 2012

.. The guy seems nice, here, but the interview was boring. The only thing I liked what he said is “As a grown ass man, I don’t really care what the sexuality of the next man is.” This is true. I always wondered why men, especially black men, were so against or judgemental towards gay men.

    • SBC19 October 2, 2012

Because black men respect alpha males and gay and alpha don’t mesh. The next man can suck all the d*** he wants, he just needs to stay away from me.

  16. Tbozfan10 October 3, 2012

“This is true. I always wondered why men, especially black men, were so against or judgemental towards gay men.”

Oh shut up. You act like white men are just so nice and accepting of gay men, you clearly didn’t grow up around them because they definately are not. Just ask Matthew Sheperd if white men are so great to gay men if he were still alive today.
