With her new LP ‘Unapologetic‘ fast approaching, the pressure is on for Island’s Rihanna to nab a #1 single in time for its release. This, if she is to duplicate or better feats secured by 2011’s ‘Talk That Talk’ and its lead single ‘We Found Love‘.
Unfortunately, this week has seen her fail at achieving the above while her former label mate Ne-Yo has soared on the album tally with his new album ‘R.E.D’.
Details below…
In at #2 is Fenty’s ‘Diamonds‘, unable to live up to the hype generated by her performance at NBC’s ‘SNL’ over the weekend.
Beaten to the top spot by Maroon 5‘s ‘One More Night’, the singer is currently in dangerous territory with Kesha’s ‘Die Young‘ hot on her heels at #3.
Elsewhere, Ne-Yo’s ‘Let Me Love You’ sits pretty at #8 while his new album ‘R.E.D’ debuts at #4 with 66,000 units moved in its launch week, marking the highest selling R&B album on the chart this week.
However, in what will undoubtedly leave Camp Rihanna a little shaken and stirred, Taylor Swift‘s new project ‘RED’ shows no sign of letting up, with 196,000 units moved in its third week of release- selling more albums in three weeks (1.7 million) than ‘Talk’ sold since November of last year.
This, threatening the singer’s chances of landing her first US number one album if ‘RED’ continues its reign on the chart, which ‘Woman To Woman’ singer Keyshia Cole is set to excel in when her new album drops on the 19th.
Will Rihanna finally hit #1? Or will she fall prey to Ms.Swift’s sales reign?
Let’s hope she doesn’t.
For if she does, we see shame and embarrassment for her in the foreseeable future if she debuts any lower than #4 come November 28th.
