New Song: Whitney Houston – ‘Never Give Up’

Published: Tuesday 6th Nov 2012 by Sam

The Voice lives on.

Whitney Houston may be gone in the flesh, yet the late great legend remains ever-enduring on ‘I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston’.

Due on November 19th, the retrospective set features many of the star’s classic hits, as well as new cut ‘Never Give Up’ – which premiered moments ago.

Produced by Jermaine Dupri, the track is believed to have been recorded during the studio sessions for Houston’s Platinum selling “final” album ‘I Look To You’.

Take a listen below…

Like much of Whitney’s newer material, ‘Never Give Up’ highlights the potential embedded in her “new voice”. Sure, years of hardship had shaved a noticeable amount of horse-power off of her range, yet the richness in the texture and tone of her vocal cannot be denied.

A solidly produced mid-tempo, which makes for a bittersweet listen. For in many ways, we wish someone had sung these lyrics to Whitney herself before tragedy struck. Still, there’s no point wallowing in the “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s”. Greatness doesn’t die, it lives on and inspires.

Yeeeeeeeessssssss Sam! The Voice lives on
I like the song. Very “I look to you”. I loved many songs on that album. “For the lovers” or “Worth it” for example

I miss Whitney! She’s one of the few singers that can deliver on a pop or R&B track without it ever sounding forced. I think Whit sounds pretty good on this. This song definitely showcases the “new voice”, but Whitney bring the old passion to it. Whitney is just amazing! This woman will always mean the world to me.

This track has that 90’s Whitney feel that was sorely missed from her most recent work prior to her passing. Very glad that we get to hear it and look forward to any future releases planned.

It reminds me of Mariah’s “triumphant”. They should do a remix of “Triumphant x Never Give Up” (Mariah & Whitney ft. Jermaine Dupri)

The song is uplifting & Whitney sounds GREAT. RIP my angel!

I like this. A few more years of healthy and clean living her voice would have been back to the Just Whitney/Greatest Hits era. I hope there are many more hidden gems in her catalogue. The best B-side I think she did was either Takin’ A Chance or Dancin’ on the Smooth Edge. Probably the latter as the vocal performance is out of this world!

After all these signs (film, song …) can we ever believe that THE VOICE would have gone so stupidly …someone has something to do with this inexplainable death and loss!!!!!!!!!

  20. shayna November 8, 2012

the song is inspirational but unfortunately Whitney’s voice doesn’t have the quality it use to have before bobby. so sad she gave up on her love of self for a wretch like substance.

    Oh i know this song!
Monica was on Jermaine Dupri’s living the life recording this in the Still Standing era.

Showed her singing a few seconds of it in the Studio, as well as giving her well know REAL TALK lol

Whitney sounds nice on it. Really sounds good in parts and other bits so-so for her standards but WILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS LEGEND Whitney Houston R.I.P
