Though they may strike Gold on the Hot 100, it’s become increasingly apparent that the likes of Pitbull, Flo Rida and Rihanna are anything but the mega sellers their countless #1 singles should make them.
Instead, while they don’t always ‘soar’ when it comes to singles, the likes of Jay Z & Drake continue to stand as music’s real winners, renown for shifting albums…in abundance.
Now find out how they, Kanye West and ‘End Of Time’ singer Beyonce are leading this year’s chart pack with their latest releases below…
Released November 15th 2011, Drake‘s ‘Take Care‘ has now sold an impressive 1,920,354 units in the US alone, certified Double Platinum in Canada, Platinum in the US and Gold in the UK- scoring a Metacritic score of 78 out 100 upon launch.
Elsewhere, Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ sits pretty with 1,513,622 units sold since August 8th of last year.
Debuting with sales of 436,000, the collaborative project holds a US Platinum certificate for 1 million copies shipped to outlets in the market ,and currently holds the record for having the second highest digital first week sales for a Rap album with 290,000 units moved on the outlet alone.
As it stands, it’s sold 713,564 copies less than Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Carter IV’ which debuted August 28th 2011. Shifting an impressive 2,227,186 units, this project now boast sales of 3.5 million copies moved worldwide a Double Platinum certification awarded by the Recording Industry Association of America.
This, after selling 300,000 digital copies in its first four days of release on iTunes, snatching the aformentioned record once held by rivals, ‘The Throne’.
Representing for the ladies comes Beyonce, who despite enjoying a short lived promo run for her latest album ‘4′ has seen the LP move a sweet 1,268,558 in the US alone. Surprising, considering she did so without the benefit of a world tour or a definitive smash hit single.
Next February, the icon will serve as the headlining performer at Superbowl 2013 in support of her fifth studio album, reportedly to be released in the first quarter of the year.
Other noteworthy sales include Rihanna‘s ‘Talk That Talk’ with 1,015,000 copies sold since last year, 50 Cent’s ‘Before I Self Destruct’ with around 500,000 moved since 2009 and Chris Brown‘s ‘Fortune’ with 375,717 sold since June 29th of this year.
