As previous reports indicated, Tamar Braxton has stormed charts with her new single ‘Love & War’ – battling her way to the top of Itunes charts on both sides of the pond.
Now, in news certain to delight #Tamartians, the songstress is now #1 on the chart ranking. A feat which sees her knock out ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ hitmaker Bruno Mars from the top spot as well as occupy the tally’s top seat with a pure R&B tune – an extreme rarity.
It’s clear now that SHE is not playing around. And, if her live performance from tonight’s episode of ‘Tamar & Vince’ is anything to judge by, the competition should start getting worried now…
The chart takeover came shortly after news the starlet debuted at #1 on Itunes R&B tally. We are keen to see how this translates into Billboard figures once the Hot 100 refreshes next week!

This needs to be a smash at Black radio (contemporary and Urban AC) and they should also push hard for CHR/Top 40 and mainstream AC airplay too. Won’t be easy, because even though radio seems to take its cues from what’s selling at iTunes, still…at Black radio, hip hop remains more front burner than R&B, and we all know that pop stations have been snubbing urban acts for the past 3-4 years. Still might take some convincing, which means Tamar needs to gear up for basically a media assault. And in the meantime, Alicia Keys, Miguel, and even Brandy and Keyshia need to step up their game too, just to make the overall circle stronger.
I really hope that this is a signal of a changing tide in music. How much dance, pop and hip hop can people binge on before they start wanting something else? Every R&B act who may have been pondering a collaboration with Calvin Harris/Guetta/Dr. Luke/RedOne need to wait a minute and see how this goes.

I get an unsettling feeling that Mariah and Beyonce are possibly considering taking their forthcoming music in a more dance/pop direction and I hope that this Tamar song throws enough of a curve ball in the industry as far as trends go to cancel any of those plans.
