It may have leaked one month before its release, but ASAP Rocky‘s debut LP ‘Long Live A$AP‘ has proved that nothing stands in the way of fan loyalty this week.
Find out how below…
With 141,003 units sold in its launch week, ‘A$AP‘ now sits atop the Billboard 200, making him the first Rapper to score a US #1 album with a debut album this year.
Fuelled by Hip Hop’s undying commercial support for its worthy contributors, this week saw the LP outsell Taylor Swift‘s ‘RED’ (40,591) and One Direction‘s ‘Take Me Home‘ (22,994), both of which show no signs of leaving the Top 20 even months after release.
Elsewhere, Adele‘s ’21‘ occupies the #12 spot despite suffering a sales decrease of 7%. However, in solidifying the album’s status as this century’s greatest ‘mega seller’, this week saw it outsell Rihanna‘s 2012 release ‘Unapologetic‘- two years after release.
Indeed, with 19,489 units moved since last week, the Pop piece continues on its struggle to match successes scored by its lead single ‘Diamonds’, as seen in its inability to outperform an album released one year before it was.
Marking her first US #1 album in the market, ‘Unapologetic’s unfortunate chart run now means it is unlikely to enjoy a US Platinum Certification anytime, set to follow in the footsteps of her 2011 LP ‘Talk That Talk‘ which took one year to ship 1 million units, despite the momentum garnered by its launch single ‘We Found Love’ and its ill fated follow up, ‘You Da One‘.
