Mariah Carey‘s “shade dispenser” status has been established almost as long as her reign atop of the charts. Indeed, the legendary diva is renown for her quick-witted responses and brisk dismissal of tomfoolery.
Hence, it was little surprise that the singer adopted this approach when addressing her “beef” with Nicki Minaj in a sit-down interview with Barbara Walters on Nightline last night.
Famed for asking questions the people really want answers to, Walters quizzed Carey on the drama with her fellow American Idol judge, motherhood, marriage, and more.
The segment also featured Mimi working on patriotic cut ‘Bring It On Home’ and another piano-driven number – the latter of which believed to be a track from her upcoming album.
Peep the piece after the jump…
The jury’s out on whether Mariah, Minaj, and Idol are playing the “beef” for ratings given the show’s on-screen debut being around the corner (January 16th). Whatever the case, they’ve “done enough” to ensure we’ll be watching.
More than anything, though, we’re most amped for Mimi’s new music! She often delivers when backed up against a wall; and given the so-so sales of her albums in recent years, it’s more fact than fiction that her relevance to today’s charts is in a tricky predicament.
Here’s hoping she proves the naysayers wrong, ‘Emancipation’ style, this go round. She has a huge platform in the form of Idol (and will do for five months straight), hence there’s really no excuse.
