With January gone and the world of Pop well into February, music lovers can expect to be introduced to a number of newbies- all vying to win their hearts…and wallets.
However, with the backing of Motown, the blessing of Ne-Yo and the charisma of a young Bobby Brown, it’s safe to say B Smyth stands head and shoulders above the rest of his pack, bursting onto the scene with the budding hit, ‘Leggo‘.
So, as to truly understand what makes the 19 year old entertainer tick, That Grape Juice caught up with him last week as he prepares cuts for his debut album.
Get into it below…
On his journey thus far:
“I decided I wanted to pursue music about a year ago, and it all started with me covering artists on YouTube. I did Miguel’s ‘Sure Thing’ and started to get opportunities from labels. I showcased for all of them but Motown was the last one I performed for, and I knew from then that they were the best label for me.”
When quizzed on how influential Ne-Yo has been to his cause:
“Ne-yo’s the homie man. He’s definitely going to be a big part of the album. I know he wants to steer me in the right direction and wants the best for me. What’s so great about the album is that it’s really diverse.
You’ve got the songs like ‘Leggo’ but then you have the slow jams, or the songs you wanna play when you’re chillin’ with your girl. You really get to feel my personality on it which is important because some of my favorite artists (Miguel, Trey Songz) are good at expressing themselves with their songs, so I hope to be as successful as they are.”
His favorite Rappers are?
“Kendrick and Future,” he explained, “If I had to pick two Rappers that I could have on a remix to the single it would be them, it’s a really big song so I think they’d sound great on it…big fan of both.”
