It was a collaboration welcomed by all three of their respective fan bases. However, if hints given by Eve, Lil Kim and Missy Elliott as to what their forthcoming cut will sound like are anything to go by, the ladies may have to head back to the drawing broad and start from scratch.
This, thanks to Rap’s long running Prom Queen Nicki Minaj.
Details below…
Last week, Missy Elliott gave fans no choice but to believe the number was billed, ‘Murder She Wrote‘, when she responded to a Tweet sent in to her by a @ItsMrKings, as seen below:
While her response was vague, the song’s title prompted reports that it would feature or at the very least pull from the Chaka Demus classic of the same name. A report, given further weight when Eve told Power 105.1 that the number would be of the Reggae persuasion, all but confirming it would sample Demus.
Unfortunately for the trio, their reported decision to tribute the cut couldn’t have come at a worse time- considering their competitor Nicki Minaj sampled the same number for her contribution to French Montana‘s ‘Freaks‘.
This, set to downplay the hype Eve, Missy and Kim would have generated had the ‘Va Va Voom’ MC hadn’t taken it on first.
A hype, all three veterans would have needed as the launching pad for their respective come backs, all set for launch with new albums this year.
Of course, while it only makes sense for the world to hold judgement on the song until it debuts, we hope the ladies have plans in place to push it to the highest possible level.
For, with it being some years since any of them scored as smash hit, the last thing they need is to be belaboured with talk of ‘flopping’- especially if Minaj’s version of the song fares much better on all fronts.
