Christina Aguilera’s ‘Lotus’ Goes On Sale For $1.99 / TGJ Weighs In

Published: Saturday 16th Mar 2013 by David

We won’t lie.

Upon hearing Christina Aguilera‘s latest LP ‘Lotus’ weeks before its November 9th release, we were sure it’d go on to become one of the year’s mega sellers, shifting numbers moved by the likes of Pink‘s ‘The Truth About Love‘.

Unfortunately, for reasons we hope to one day learn of, Christina’s promotion of the release did not live up to the album’s worth resulting in what many fans are accurately billing a commercial slow burner. An album, that though packing enough hits to dominate a number of radio formats, was never given the opportunity to truly fly.

That is…until now.

For $1.99, music lovers can now get their hands on their own copy of ‘Lotus’ via a discounted price whipped up by the guys over at Amazon.

Of course, with 220,000 units sold since November, many see this new price as the fresh pair of legs the LP needs to reach higher ground, as to avoid being labelled ‘a flop’.

To others, this new price stands as a cheap ploy to generate sales of an album that was both poorly promoted while the likes of Alicia Keys’Girl On Fire’ and Pink’s ‘Truth‘ were given ample opportunity to soar both home and away.

The way we see it, this new price may see the album open its doors to casual listeners who would have no real incentive to buy it at full price- and if impressed with that they here, will be more inclined to pay attention to future releases from the soprano.

In short, Amazon‘s discount could be the seed RCA uses to sew Brand Aguilera into as many playlists as possible, even if it does come at the risk of her status as one of the industry’s cash cows.

For, with gems like ‘Just A Fool’, ‘Blank Page’ and ‘Let There Be Love‘, we think selling it this for much for a limited time is the perfect way to introduce more of the world to songs they otherwise would never had heard of.

Songs, that boast a voice, quality and genuine emotion that transcend chart pressure, and will no doubt move anyone who takes them to give them a listen.
